Interesting way to look at it...
The way I interpreted it is that the grass creature is the being he's assembling and the mossy cat skeletons are just some cat spirits

Ah! I saw the cat skeletons as prototypes.. and the moss as clumps/strings of grass [only without the individual blades drawn because who the heck has the time for that!]
