Description Ahoy peepz

Since I'm fully busy with school and stuff and I don't want to keep you on your toes about the protoss armour I make these days, I figured I put up an early WIP so you can see what I was cooking in the last few weeks x) So you won't get bored while I'm busy with school and stuff -_-
(Wasn't able to continue this since... 2 weeks ?)

Though I must say that is is more than half complete, you can see how I was thinking x)
It's design brakes with the original concept of protoss armour in a way that it is offers more freedom to the movements. The next huge difference will be that this armour will possess a ranged weapon on the right hand while on the left hand, you can still see a bit modified look of a zealot psy-blade.
I would be curious what do you think about this design ?

Well comments and suggestions are welcome.

Oh a side note:
Don't use this without permission ok ?

Thanks a lot for the compliment :3
I really want to finish it soon ^^
Got some ideas how to make different parts. Also still need some changes (minor-major) at some parts of the detailed armour.

Tanathiel In reply to Alaneia [2010-04-27 16:47:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the compliment :3

Actually I shuld be done with it until 3rd of May At least with the drawing part xD
As for the exam, it will be over around middle of June... at least I will finish this school finally x)

For the anatomy:
I don't know, I checked your Zeratul and it seems O.K
Just remember that protoss have VERY thin hip Hm... check up ony some human anatomy, it will help a bit

This might help 2x works of one of my friends in DA:

I guess these are good as start But you should really get a human anatomy book ^^ I always keep one near :3 Helps a lot ^^
If you got stuck or have problems, let me know I try to help
Btw, armour and clothing can hide muscle if you are unsure how to make them.

i´m sure i have one of those books *queston is,where?*
my mainprobs are the legs, feet and hands.. so humans are not exactly that helpful but for the rest <3
3rd may mhh, 6 days? way too much XD

no,i can understand that,i think i need forever..

the links are quite good, think i can use some of my new knowledge hehe

hmm,do not give permission for asking to help,it could happen that i accept it XD
but thanks

Hehhe you know I have a "bad" habit to help others
LoL, if you ask some of my frieds, it is hard for me NOT to help xD

But you are welcome
It is funny though that there is NO canon exists for protoss physical look :/ Ever since SC 1, there are different looking protoss even in the manual xD Not to mention the ones on net
So I guess it is partly depends on you how to draw them
(For examle, mostly the toes and weather you draw "claws" on the end of the fingers or not ^^)

zeratuls my favorite,so i think every protoss i might make looks like him :/
kind of obsessed...
then,if you chose :
are you good at backgrounds?
XD
i hate them...and atm it seems like a bit of advice would be very very helpful....
have to edit the naked zeratul again for it...bäääh
backgrounds
grmpf

Tanathiel In reply to Alaneia [2010-04-28 07:49:30 +0000 UTC]

Hehhe if you take a look at my gallery, you will find that usually I don't draw backgrounds that much
But I start to make them ^^ And I'm espeially like one of my attepms when I made the Grim Reaper pic
SO! What king of advice you need ? Background is a huge theme
Lets see...

Usually the background is more... blured than the foreground. The shapes and the objects lines are less defined and they get more blurry as you go back from the foreground to the "far background". Technically a mountain range in the back would be not really defined... mostly just a mid-grey spot. It works just as your eyes work. Aside of that, perspective rules. Depending on your point of view, the perspective can be really different
Even in the foreground! Try to look up some stuff on google about the perspective so you can see what I mean (since I can't draw it down atm to show you the different rules xD).
Hm... Background is always a "filler". Meaning it must not draw attention from the main thing you want to show. Of course, you need to make it good, but you have to keep in mind, that the background in is a lesser position compared to the mid and foreground. This drops down to composition. The way you compose your pic determines where the viewer of the picture will look first and foremost the first time. You have to decide what you want to show: so what details are important and witch one you need to neglect in order to "guide" the view

Hm, thats it for now that I have in mind about the topic ^^
Let me know if something is not clear or have additional questions Cheers ^^

wow

i have to copy that and save it on my computer that i can´t forget what you said
i loooove to make the background to important with to many details and it´s everything but not blurry
XD
think i will edit the pic in the next minutes so you can have a look

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tanathiel In reply to Alaneia [2010-04-28 14:42:01 +0000 UTC]

Hehhe I don't say that you shouldn't make it detailed
You only have to decide that how much attention that part needs for an overall balanced piece ? Too much attention can mess things up, since the viewer can get confused with the too much details. Sometimes the less is more

Alaneia In reply to Tanathiel [2010-04-28 17:22:52 +0000 UTC]

i updated the pic, so feel free to criticize XD
damn, it almost killed me..
i still hate it ^^

Tanathiel In reply to Alaneia [2010-04-29 13:02:14 +0000 UTC]

I made a reply to it
Actually if you do that little light shading you will see if you need to actually correct anything at all. I always use light shade when making my works, since most of the time with too much detail one gets confused how are things on there xD
I think you doing fine

Btw, if you like detailing, I advise a mechanical pecil x) and for blending (don't laugh) I recommend the cotton ear-cleaner. It is cheap, you can get it nearly everywhere and accurate since it is small xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Alaneia In reply to Tanathiel [2010-04-29 18:17:10 +0000 UTC]

use those too if i can find one..
i chance pencils, depends on witch one is lying around me...(i looove to sit in a chaos of papers, pencils, rubbers and computer )
light and shadows always are important,i just want to have some clear lines to stay on top of things...details were added later XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tanathiel In reply to Alaneia [2010-04-29 18:31:32 +0000 UTC]

Hehe I know thats why I said the light shadow Just and outline of the shadow with a light line would be enough, since object "pop out" after getting some stuff
Helps a lot in the sketching phase actually I like to work with clear lines too, but after a time I realised that I need to use softer lines to define the shape, since it would be hard to rub it off if I need a lighter outline there

Well I'm curious how it will look like in the end :3
And yea... you should see my desk now XD It is a total chaos xD
Got some drink prepared too (Hope I don't spill it... xD)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Alaneia In reply to Tanathiel [2010-04-29 19:38:25 +0000 UTC]

i´m afraid i have to ask for help
(just look at the edited picture, perhaps you find out for yourself..)

i feel like crying

yeah, the rubbing problem...i´m fighting it too..

oh,drinks on the desk?for me,not a good idea..i´m pretty good at spilling it over the whole room
Oo

Awwww.... ^^ *pats shoulder*
Don't feel down

Well it is hazardous for me too to keep drink on my desk x)
But since I'm working now non-stop it is better to keep one near
I'm pretty good at hitting my arm and leg into nearly every bloody thing in my room and for that matter in the whole house X)

Rotring :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Magyaros In reply to Tanathiel [2009-09-15 12:27:53 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tanathiel In reply to Magyaros [2009-09-16 20:34:01 +0000 UTC]

Nekem mondod ? xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Magyaros In reply to Tanathiel [2009-09-17 17:37:06 +0000 UTC]

Mazohista... , én pedig sajnos túl lusta vagyok mindent rotringgal készíteni, sőt legtöbbször nincs is ötletem, és kées vagyok órákon keresztül bámulni az üres lapot...

Tanathiel In reply to Magyaros [2009-09-21 21:16:43 +0000 UTC]

ismerős...
én pl most 3 hónapon át ültem 2 megrendelésemen :/
Végül persze most megcsináltam az egyiket (felteszem amint tehetem) szóval... jah...

I'm glad you like it btw ^^

I rather do not put in my faves any WIP arts... but now I can not hold myself to do it with this one. It's just awesome! A great !

PS Have you been thinking of contacting Blizzard and helping them with concepts/artworks to SC2? If not - you definitely should!

Én piszkosul imádom a páncélokat!

the armour looks a bit heavy for the articulations of the legs, I think it'd maybe fall on their knees by its weight :S

great work btw

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tanathiel In reply to sleepinartist [2009-05-15 10:39:54 +0000 UTC]

Well since I gambeled this design on the fact that the suit itself has some mechanic "muscles" and other things to help the user with the weight, I guess it would stand still. Besides, the Terran marine suit is in the same boat x) But it works, so why shouldn't for a technically superior race ? xD

The legs are far from finished in design though.
I want to make them more massive, to support the suit when the user fires with the arm-gun. It will have a nice recoil so I will look into it thanks for the pointing out.
