When I went to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum a few months ago, I saw an exhibit about Sadako, a young girl who contracted cancer from nuclear fallout. During her stay at the hospital, she made a thousand paper cranes so that her wish would come true (which then led to the book: Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes). Each of the cranes in the exhibit screamed out Sadako's wish, "I want to live!" This is perhaps what made the photograph of her body in the coffin all the more heartbreaking. She looked so young lying amongst the flowers with her mouth open just a bit showing a small gap between her teeth.

For all the children out there, I hope we will never stop fighting for a brighter future.
