I say no to AI-generated art. Because afterall it is stealing from artists, who have been working hard for it.

Artwork, the ideas, unique styles, the process of learning and improving your art - it all comes from the heart, human minds.

I am not against new technologies. I can understand the fascination for AI, and think that are places where AI can be used - if in a responsible, respectful way. Depending on what it is used for.

But what is clearly not OK in any way, is to copy (it is stealing) from artists' works, especially without their consent, or tricking them into permission like the opt-out option or setting the permission to yes by default.

If you don't understand artists' concerns - try to imagine yourself in such a situation: You have been working hard on your skills for years (no matter if it's art, poetry, music or something else), you spent money and endless time on it to create something unique, to find your own style. And then a machine shows up, scans all your work results without your permission, and creates something out of it that maybe looks not completely, but from slightly to very likely to your and other people's work... in seconds. Without heart or emotion. A cheap, quick mash-up. Just by re-using what they scanned from you. And maybe not only for fun, but even for money.

It devaluates artwork and creativity. It's robbing artists of their identity and what makes art valuable and unique.

These AI systems would not exist in their current form without our artwork.

DeviantART knows this. And still, they opened those flood gates. AI generated images flood the front page. Many of which are not tagged correctly. It's often impossible to tell if it's a real artwork someone spent heart and time on, or just an AI result.

This is not what an "Artists Website" should be about. Real artists made this site what it is today. Not AI generators.

I absolutely do not say everyone who enjoys AI is a bad person. But I do hope, that people will realize the huge problems that comes with it. And that they understand what it feels like for us artists.
