The picture shows the hearts that US combat personnel have for people overseas, because once they are there in combat, or not in combat, they show that the people of the US care about them and actually want them to thrive. Not only does the soldier trade his helmet for the child's cap, but there is a mountain dew in his hands, and his face shows that he wants US forces in Afghanistan, his cheesy smile, his welcoming tone to the US soldiers, and just how happy, makes me happy, and hopefully, everyone happy. So, on a scale one to ten, I'll rate this picture, 10. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Now that smile is worth everything. Saw a few on them back in the Nam and a few other places. Yeah, I'm old but some things never change.
Hope all those men came back as whole as anyone can from times like those.
You do great work.

This picture makes me stop and realize how lucky that Canada is to have the US as it's Allie, even with all up and downs that comes with being Allies.

Spend some time in another person's shoes before making judgement. Take a moment to understand why they do what they do. Maybe then you'll understand.
Very good advice... that is exactly what I'm trying to do with respect to the military right now. I understand the need for defense, but sometimes I find it so hard to see soldiers as good people. The harder I try to understand, though, the more I realize just how much we have in common... Unwavering determination, conviction to a cause, refusal to give up under any circumstances. It isn't the fault of soldiers that the government has created this legal construct to pit us against each other.
I'm an independent scientist and inventor, you see... I have a friend who developed an electromagnetic resonator which the DoD then decided would make an excellent component to a military weapon, so they sent the FBI to demand he hand over his schematics, prototypes, and the legal rights to the resonator over to the military. My friend refused and they held him in federal prison until he did, using the justification that hacking into YOUR OWN past email account to which you forgot the password is somehow malicious hacking.
I have another friend who's a veteran, formerly Special Ops, retired to become an independent inventor and built a power source that worked using centrifugal force... The FBI came right into his house and stole his prototype because "it was too dangerous for a civilian to have in their possession" That was my wake-up call that all the crap soldiers do to independent scientists really isn't the fault of the soldiers. And why would it be? A soldier has a commitment to defend the future; an independent scientist has a commitment to build a future worth defending... We should be working together, not against each other.
In spite of how far I have come trying to accept the viewpoint of a soldier, sometimes I still have a hard time... especially when some soldier gets blown up and gets a medal, while my fellow independent engineer gets blown up trying to make an alternative energy source to improve all of our lives and he gets a lawsuit for reckless endangerment. We don't need any medals, but seriously people... keep your lawsuits to yourselves.
I'm not trying to offend you with any of this, so I hope you don't think I am... I know that you try hard to help people understand that soldiers are humans just like everyone else, so I thought you might like to read a brief insight into my struggle to accept them as such. You do good work

I might go to the Army, right now I'm between the Marines and the Army (Most likely the Marines, though). Lots of my family members served in those two branches, so I'm not sure which to go to for sure. I just have to wait and see ^^
I want to do something with photography so far. I am always browsing through the jobs in those two branches though, since there might be something else of my interest.

Both branches are pretty good, we just tend to hate on one another pretty hard. xD
You should totally go for photography! Not that I'm biased or anything...
Both go to AIT here at Meade. The biggest difference I've seen is that the Marines do only photography and the Army has us doing video in addition to photo.

Yea, that is probably what I will do, photography. Time can only tell which branch I'll pick, though. Yea, I used to always watch the pranks each branch did on each other on YouTube, pretty entertaining haha ^.^
