Description Sorry for the small photo, am awaiting the full-size photo to be sent to me.

Made between 8th and 9th December 2009, for a friend's 18th birthday on the 10th. He's one of the greatest piano players I know.

All edible except for the lid, stand and stick, which was made from foam board, and a chopstick painted with black food colour. There are pedals made of gold card underneath.
The music on the stand was originally an A4 sheet of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C minor, scaled down to cake-size.

Approximately 23cm by 16cm, standing 4-5 cm high on three pillars (not really obvious in the photo). The cake itself has a gold cardboard foil board underneath it, so the pillars can support it. Gold thick cake board underneath is 30cm round.

Base cake is a chocolate Madeira cake, which was fully edible (and very nice) afterwards (after peeling off the icing, which was still slightly wet...)

Keys on piano, stool and entire piano painted with black food colouring, after the spray food colouring from Wilton I had didn't really work...

Icing is Orchard Ready-to-Roll fondant/sugarpaste, which covers the cake, and the stool is made from icing!

Altogether, 4 and a half octaves, didn't quite fit 8 on!

It was supposed to have "Steinway and Sons" written on the side in gold (since my friend loves Steinway pianos), and I would have put strings inside the top, but perhaps if I ever make a cake like this again, I may have some more time

Very fun to make, crazy, but that's what I do best
Next decorated cake is looking like a Guitar Hero themed cake for my brother's 15th next year

Do you ever make Violin cakes? Including the bow, Metronome, Rosin, and a sheet of Vivaldi's Concerto for Violin in A minor? Just thought I would ask. As I don't see a cake surviving being shipped from Australia to California, do you. Although it would be a sight to see, no doubt!
