Description Short Story (515 Words)

---
Weary was young Aethelweard, as his parental figure tossed his rump out of their den that morning. Way, as his guardian would affectionately come to call the meek pup, had hesitantly accepted her proposal of an encounter with the ocean. While all pups born in their little sea town would learn to swim in the brackish pools of sunken sand water, Way's guardian had a different, more drastic approach in mind. She would see to it that the young boy would become a guard, preferably of fame and fortune, but a guard nevertheless. This was just another trial to her.

There before Way stood the entity his growing mind still could not yet grasp, the emerald horizon mixed with deep blues which stretched on and on for seemingly eternity. The ocean's gentle rolls were an amazing, and yet also a terrifying sight. His small body shuddered. He'd been mentally preparing for this for one or two days now, but it seemed as if that did not matter as he became unnaturally aware of his tensing throat. His curled tail lowered into the shape of a question mark, so curly that it was unable to hide behind his hind legs. He looked to his guardian for reassurance but was met with a maw aiming for the scruff of his neck. Seconds later, he found himself soaring through the air, and soon a small plop occurred within the surface of the ocean.

Water filled his ears, and salt stung his eyes. At first, he flailed wildly, but instinct would take over, and the fluffy dire wolf pup would bob back up to the waves. Once his eyes became accustomed to the salt, and once his nose stinging to the foreign sensation adjusted, his vision was placed towards the shoreline. This... wasn't so bad? Actually, it was quite fun! Not only that, but the affirmation he previously sought from his mother plastered on her face as she proudly watched the whelp dog-paddling through the waves as if he'd always been able to.

A spark filled his eyes as he splished and splashed, seafoam clinging to the wet curls flowing with the waves. What was he so anxious about before? It was almost relaxing, cutting across the waves as they drug him towards the shore. He would swim like this for almost half a day until finally his guardian called to him with a soft warning -- he surely was tired now. The sea was wild, and should he venture too far, it would overwhelm him.

Heeding the warning, Way would return to the shore, all tuckered out. Smiling, his mother carried him for the rest of the evening on her shoulders. He would feel an awful pain in his legs the next day, and the day after, he would venture out into the ocean again, and again after that.

While most pups his age were wary of the sea, Way had discovered his love for its vast waves, towering onwards and onwards. And perhaps one day, he would see what was on the other side of the horizon.

I want to go to the beach!
This one took quite a bit of my time, but I really like how it turned out. I've always wanted to draw a scene like this; it was quite challenging!
