Yeah, I feel this. Lapis really is bad at trusting people.
I get the impression that she feels everything that's happened with the Homeworlders and everything that's happened since she was freed is her fault. Gems don't seem to notice Earth until she escapes it, her message implies that she's desperately trying to mitigate the fight that she knows will happen (and doesn't think Steven will win).
Steven's an engine of forgiveness, so he'll try to help her regardless. Which is good, because him giving up on her is a breaking point.

Lapis: to make more fandom drama.

To be fair, I think the fuse makes perfect sense.
Lapis is angry. Angry over having been trapped inside a damn mirror, unable to leave our pathetic planet. And when she finally comes home, it's no longer the home she remembered, and the gems treat her poorly and force her back to Earth. She has nothing left but her sadness and wrath.
Therefor, she now finds some sort of satisfaction of turning herself into a prison for one of her jailers

PLUS! Lapis really cares for Steven, since after all, he did set her free and fixed her gem, so she would really want to protect Steven from Jasper, but Lapis isn't strong enough to stop her, so Lapis would've had to have fused with Jasper in order for her to keep her from destroying Steven.

Lapis is a dick. And I think the writers intentionally designed her to be a dick and a sympathetic character at the same time.Β
-Drops an ocean on Steven and his friends the moment he gives her a ticket home. As soon as she gets what she wants "K Bye" and they need Lions warp and the bubble to save them in the nick of time.Β
- Sends Β a really pointless warning to the Gems (Peridot already told them that she's reporting them) that's basically just asking them to surrender.Β
- Doesn't help Stevens jail break.Β
- Instead of helping Steven/Gems capture Jasper, she does that stupid fusion crap out of pure spite.Β
Why? Because Steven healed her Gem but her mind is still cracked.

well ... i think that the best lapis can do , she can only strong when :
1- she in the ocean
2- no one can reach her
lapis is not a strong fighting gem she cant fight jasper in that close proximity (as you can see jasper can just catch her and break her neck like a took pick like when lapis try to fly away ) must give credit for lapis will power : use her power to retain malachite a massive powerful gem fusion and force jasper to stay fusion . remember this : fusion is not easy even to friends and team mate for 6000 years like the crystal gems fusion is very easy to break (giant woman, fusion cuisine)

- Eh
- ''Pointless'' Peridot could've come back with a single Robonoid for all they could've known, at that point she didn't know Garnet would split into tiny space lesbians and beat the shit out of Jasper and thought surrendering was the best possible choice. That message was solely for Steven anyways.
- Because she couldn't. She doesn't look that physically strong, and how would she reach the ocean from space?
- Fair enough

This really should have happened.
Then again, Lapis has her reasons:
She only found Steven to be worth protecting our of the Crystal Gems, as he helped her get back to the Homeworld. Therefore, she kind of made a double-do choice (in my perspective meaning she agreed on both sides through a self-compromised decision). She fused with Jasper, but helped the Crystal Gems by sacrificing herself to send Jasper to the bottom of the ocean, even to never possibly see anything else again.

Lapis was held prisoner for centuries in a mirror holding on to the hope of seeing her home again. When she finally got there she found that her home was gone, and was most likely arrested since she came from Earth and was definitely grilled for information, but as she said didn't tell them about Steven. When she got to Homeworld she lost her last hope.
I would have liked Lapis to fight back too on the ship she was powerless but on an ocean beach she's practically unstoppable. That doesn't mean she'd join the gems she still hates them, kept her in a mirror then left her behind on the ship.
Still Lapis spent an eternity imprisoned forced to do anothers bidding now she can make Jasper do the same while Lapis is still imprisoned she's now imprisoned in her own element.

Regardless of whether Lapis hates the Gems, she loves Steven, because he was the only person in probably over a thousand years who showed her any friendship, who cared about her. I think she would have joined the Gems because of Steven, and maybe she'd eventually grow to tolerate the others as well. Who knows?

DBMrules In reply to Iggy-1-55-306 [2015-03-31 16:29:42 +0000 UTC]
It also occurs to me Lapis was willing to help Jasper as she still had her hostage mentality, she just did what Jasper told her to do.
When she fused with Jasper Lapis gained some of Jasper's fury and turned it against her.
π: 0 β©: 1
Iggy-1-55-306 In reply to DBMrules [2015-03-31 16:37:10 +0000 UTC]
I'm pretty sure she had enough fury of her own, as we saw when she raged on the Gems at the end of Mirror Gem. She hated being trapped in a mirror, hated being trapped on Earth, and when she finally escaped she was trapped once more by her own kind. When she fused with Jasper, I think what we saw was her protecting Steven the only way she knew how: surrendering. In surrendering she was able to become stronger, and used that power to eliminate the biggest threat to Steven's safety.
