Description Although Art Winder used this Chinese themed piece as a cover for YHOS (one of my favoure zines in those days), it was originally drawn for... ready for this?... a Chinese restaurant menu. One of my friend's father was a chef and was going to open his own restaurant. It didn't work out in th eend, but I had at least make a few bucks doing this for the cover of the menu. The Chinese script at bottom right is actually the date and my name written as a pun (as is usually the case with foreign names and places). If you read Cantonese you might be able to puzzle it out...

The name of the restaurant was tohave been the Huo Ho, also a sort of pun. It translates as the Good Good, but less literally as good goodies perhaps. I was taught to pronounce it properly, with the right tones and all, and surprised hell out of my friend by being able to repeat it back. After 25 years, I sometimes wonder if I can still get it right?
