Description We did a photoshoot for the dress I made that I'm subsequently using for my hallowe'en costume this year.
The theme is the Italian Carnivalé.

The dress is made of brocade, Jordanian lace, ribbon, double-dyed organza and poplin. The mask used was not made by me, but the shoes were modified by me.

Oh

My

God

This is fantastic.  The complimentary patterns of the lace sleeves and the dress - even the ringlets in your hair carry forward that same theme.  The gold is subdued enough to add interesting accents without overwhelming, or detracting from the rest of it.  The necklace is nice, too.  Is that a fan in your left hand?  (I will have to look and see if it is opened in another picture.)  The gloves look as though they might have been a little large for you.

That you made this by hand only makes this all the more impressive.  Bravo, my dear!

Thank you so very much!

Yes, unless I can find vintage gloves (circa 1900s - 1920s) they're always too big for my tiny hands. (I have the same problem with my tiny tiny head, which is a discontinued hat size from the Victorian era that's larger than the largest child's size currently on the market and smaller than the smallest adult size - fun times! This is why I make so much of my clothing and costumes).

And yes! that is a fan - there are quite a few shots from this photoshoot in my gallery. I hope you'll have a look!

Perhaps H. G. Wells whisked you away in his time machine, bringing you from the 1895 into the present day.

Wow! Really? It almost doesn't look like the comfortable dress kind of dress. How long did it take to make?

There's no boning, and it's light but has nice flow to its movement.

It probably took...a month to do? It was all hand-sewed, but it didn't actually take that long to make because it was a fairly simply design. Still one of my favourites.

Oh how nice! I'm sure the boning would have made it a little less flowing around the upper body.. Maybe even stop it from flowing around the bottom too.

Wow! A month!? Hand sewn!? That's.. That's insain!

Taking too long? I never sew with a machine, so I have no concept of how long these take normal people.

Yeah, I originally intended to do boning, but the fitting didn't end up needing it. :3 The lace is still to this day the most expensive fabric I've ever purchased and worked with. XD

Haha, not too long at all. And yeah.

Ahh, I see I see. Oh wow! Really? Wow! Was Lace difficult to work with?
And how expensive!?

It was difficult to work with because of how i wanted to use it. Sewing lace on as trim is easy, but sewing it on as sleeves it a bit more complicated.

It was $200 per metre. I bought half a metre. It's Jordanian lace with hand-beaded glass beads.

Ohh. Trim would sound easier than sleeves.

WOW! That's expensive, but sounds pretty though.. <3 And looks really pretty.

Always noticed it, but never said it: You're very good at making costumes. This one just looks spectacular.

I'm getting better too. Making patterns are getting easier and I'm getting more adventurous with design and fabric quality as i get more confident.
