I extremely overwork every drawing I do and am scared to give someone something actually messy when they paid me money, so my sketches actually just end up being fucking line art with flat color
I wish I wasn't like this, I could make more art if I wasn't

I relate to the fear! D:
For sketches, I simply took two characters, gave myself a time limit (1h for portrait and 1,5h for fullbody) and fired away to test it. With this experiment I found myself happy with those times and try to time my sketches. I usually go over the time limit a bit with the finishing touches, but not remarkably so. With other work it's impossible though, some things just take way longer than others. But hey, maybe you should try giving yourself a time limit for sketch commissions, they are SKETCH comms after all

I had/have this problem still and it's one of the biggest reasons I get huge artblock. But I have tried to fight it by trying to make myself more efficient at drawing by practicing every now and then, doing a quick study or practice sketch as fast as possible... Especially my old work is the kind where I mostly focused on painful detailing and they all took SO LONG.
