Description Insanity is One Man’s Opinion

The title says it all. I doubt anyone will ever read this, and in fact I do not care that no one may ever read this. I write this now not for the benefit of anyone or anything. I only write this to vent my own personal musing. And I do indeed have many of them. How many nights have I done so, up to my usual four o’clock in the morning ranting and raving about a matter or subject that has no significance on the betterment of mankind, or hell, even the betterment of me. But I still do it. Because I enjoy it. And I enjoy talking about pointless senseless matters. Like this one for example. Insanity. What is it truly? Some call those suffering from severe cases of schizophrenia “insane” or sociopaths, better known as psychopaths insane. And even go so far as to call those that are mentally challenged…insane. Is it true? No. As I always say, “You can call me an asshole. But just because you say it, doesn’t make it true.”

Insanity is defined as “persistent mental disorder or derangement”. I feel that this is a more correct than many theories, but in my own views, not entirely correct. Let’s look at killers and serial murders from the past. The Unabomber? People think he was insane. Was he? I’d say no. Why? Because, he had a purpose. Albeit a weird and whacked out one, but that is neither here nor there. Or the Manson family? Insane? Beats me. But then, this brings up the question…is being crazy and insane the same thing? I personally don’t think so. I see crazy as being more of the technical and judicial definition of insane. Complete disillusion to the real world, cut off from reality, and living in your own sort of universe. People that have no coherence to society. And again, just because I say this, doesn’t mean I’m right. Remember, I’m not doctor, no psychiatrist. I have no diploma on the wall saying I’m super smart. I just have my brain.

So, what is insanity? I suppose in some ways, insanity and craziness are one in the same. Derangement from the social standards. But let’s think back to all those lame and cliché movies. James Bond. Now, I’m in no way bashing James Bond, Sean Connery or anyone else, but I am saying, that I’m fairly sure at one time or another, he has called the villain insane. Maybe I’m wrong, as I haven’t watched too many Bond movies. Is the villain insane? I don’t know. And I’m excluding from this the way they always outline to Bond in great detail, so assured of their victory, the exact times, places, and other important know how of their plans. Because that’s not insanity. That’s just stupidity. Their cruel and almost malice to get what they want, and the hell to the rest of the world. But that is not insanity. Oh no. That is being sociopathic, not insane. Being immune to the normal feelings of guilt or remorse, and finding it amusing to kill to justify their cause.

I have been beating around the bush, and I still feel that when I’m done here, I’ll have gone nowhere with this. But I haven’t intended to go anywhere anyway so…just as well. It just feels good to talk about all of this, and get it out of my brain, and to exercise my fingers. But here is my answer. What do I think insanity is? Here’s my analysis. I think it is a blend of everything, to be mental imbalanced in several respects. A person who has a less than a solid grip of the world, not necessarily living in their own dream world, but in a private world, similar to ours, but with different rules. Someone who has no qualms about killing another living thing; be it a person, animal, or even plant. Someone who has no guilt. Someone who is breaking away and doing what normal social standards apply to.

And let’s not forget the other ever crucial words to express mental instability. That a person is “mad”, “screwy”, “nuts”, “a lunatic”, “a madcap”, “in the grips of an episode of psychosis”, and all the rest. I feel that each one of these words represents a different sort or mental illness. Some more different than others. So, never forget, insanity is but a broad term. It is used to categorize all manner of different traits that people with less than average brain stability display. One man’s insanity may be another man’s crazy. Or vice versa.
