Do you ever mentally remove a player character from a game you are playing, and self-insert your own sweet self? I know I do! :3
And while playing Undertale, it's exactly what I did, same as ever.
I would have to say Toriel is one of my favourite characters - she had an immediate impression on me, and if had to be honest, I just did not want to leave the ruins, I wanted to stay with her, and listen to her, and devour those cinnamon-butterscotch pies mercilessly~
I mean lovingly~
But seriously, I love her, and I called her Mum.
Leaving her behind, and the fight with her, it all made me feel sad inside..
So I drew a me listening to a she reading me a story~ :3

I have mentally inserted myself into several fictional universes as well. Sometimes I prefer to make myself a child again, like whenever I am in Ponyville.

I almost always insert myself as the character, replacing them, as it were. I don't play with the character, I AM the character, as it were, and it becomes so much better because it is you having the adventure, not you seeing the adventure through someone else. :3
Depending on the story, my age may fluctuate in the game-me.

I have not personally played this game, but I have witnessed somebody else playing the first segment of the game. Is it possible to return to the ruins?

Um... if I remember, I think there is a certain situation where you can, but that is after you beat the final boss in one of the endings (that is, only one of the three endings).
But there isn't much to return to, since Toriel has left the ruins at this point.
(Btw, instead of watching someone else play, perhaps you should play instead

That is a shame. It would be nice to come back once in a while just to take a nap or something. Some peaceful sleep and motherly affection could fill HP.

It's a really good game, with differing possibilities and endings. I have played through twice and am too scared to do a true reset, nor do I feel like I can take the genocide route...

Pretty damn adorable, and I actually do prefer the child as a Barefoot; makes him more like a kid & cuter as well.
Neloku & myself also prefers this style to when drawing children.

I only put myself as barefoot because it seemed to make sense given it was inside, in front of a roaring fire, and it seemed to add to the coziness of the pic. :3
