Description The Maxim-Tokarev was the very first Soviet domestic light machine gun adopted for service. Based on the Maxim M1910, it was designed in 1924 for the Red Army, who was still equipped with foreign machine guns such as the Lewis or the Chauchat. It was pitted against another design by Kolesnikov, but Tokarev's design won the trials and was officially adopted in 1925. However, its service life was very short, since it got quickly replaced by the DP machine gun in 1927. Of the few Maxim-Tokarevs produced at the Tula arsenal, most of them were sent to China and the Spanish Republicans between 1938 and 1939.
