Description ... otherwise known as the Great Blue Heron....

Then again, I will stand to be corrected... 'coz I'm not too good at identifying birds. So if anyone there knows what it really is, comment or note me.

Thanks bunches!

Wilde Lake, Columbia, MD

edit: Thanks to for confirming that it's really a Great Blue Heron!

beautiful... love the reflection! though i would have liked it even more if the water had been smoother. maybe not quite like a mirror, but almost...
anyway, great work!

Everything about him is long... long bill, long neck, long legs, long feathers... I bet this is some kind of heron, but I don't know birds as well as I would like to.

In any event, that's a beautiful picture, and all that dark green is helping me to feel a bit cooler... thank you...

yeah... i had to pick one specie from the lists the internet has... their description of the great blue heron looked like it... but knowing birds, you can never be too certain... _O:

i'm glad it made you feel cooler... hope you stay cool!

i saw one of those, when i went camping a couple years ago. they're pretty big for birds **nods*

i had an idea how big they were before i actually saw one...

but ravens.... heck.... the first time i came close to one, my initial reaction was, "holy... they're as big as chickens!"

I KNOW!!!! ravens are huge too; but herons really top it all.
of course, it'd be next to nothing if it was standing next to an ostrich.....but that's beside the point.

they're very pretty though, the blue feathers you hardly see on birds, except on blue jays.....but those guys are just plain mean. =_=;

i'd like to photograph a cardinal... those red feathers really attract me...

I've stood beside an ostritch.... it's not the height that grabs you... it's the smell...

i saw one today!!! they're very pretty, but most of the ones i see are duller than what you'd like to see. of course, the fact that it isn't winter and there isnt any snow to contrast with the feathers would be a factor, but i really think birds are getting dirtier these days....

AHAHAHAHA weellll....you got used to it after a while though, right?

and I didn't stay long to even try to get used to it....
