This......needs some explanation, I think.  Ever since I first read the Silm, I've thought that if Túrin and Niënor's kid had actually been born and survived, he/she would have ended up as some huge figure of legend, probably another tragic hero with a crappy life like his/her parents but a hero all the same.  Just, y'know, knowing Tolkien.  On my most recent readthrough of the Silmarillion, I noticed that 1. humanity was less than 500 years old at the time, 2. Húrin and Morwen came from completely different houses of the Edain, and 3. aside from them both being tall, Túrin and Niënor seemed to have inherited opposite genetics from their parents, which means that 4. there's a chance that the gene pool wasn't so narrow yet that Túrin and Niënor's child couldn't have turned out completely healthy.  Trust me, I briefly studied genetics in grade school and middle school.

Well, when I mentioned this to my friend , she was like "Well then why don't you come up with a version of the story where the kid survives?" so I did, and I actually don't regret it.  (A VERY IMPORTANT disclaimer, though: I do not approve of incest, accidental or not.  I just....I feel it's a bit unfair that their kid never had a chance at d̶e̶s̶t̶r̶o̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶T̶ú̶r̶i̶n̶ ̶h̶a̶d̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶g̶o̶t̶t̶e̶n̶ ̶a̶r̶o̶u̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶d̶e̶s̶t̶r̶o̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ I mean a chance at life.)

So yeah, I now have an AU where Mablung ends up coming back from Brethil like "Yeah so I completely failed and everybody died, but I found their baby and since everything about his existence is my fault can I raise him?" and Thingol is like "I guess??  .....wait, their what?!" and while this AU has one of the most concerning and horrifying premises of any of my AUs, it's actually turned out being more wholesome and fluffy than I was expecting (at least until Mablung inevitably dies due to existing within a hundred miles of a descendent of Húrin, which will in turn kick off the trauma for the kid, but in the meantime--).

I named the kid Núrin Findulion as kind of a joke at first (it mixes together Niënor, Túrin, Finduilas, and Cúthalion) but ended up sticking with it for lack of anything better.  Núrin translates in Sindarin (as far as I was able to figure) to "sadness", but honestly that's not even out of character considering the other names in his family's history.

(Mablung is from J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Silmarillion"; I'm just gonna go ahead and say that Findulion belongs mostly to me, since if Tolkien had wanted him he shouldn't have killed him so young.)
