Description I was out at my pond with Bud when I saw this guy in the middle of the water. Well immediately I yelled at Bud to get out before he was eaten.
It took me two days but I managed to catch the monster. He was about 40 lb and four times the size of Bud.
If you look closely you can see I put a quarter on his back to give you an idea of how big he is.

This is the turtle's new home. [link]

I had one of these turtles near my swimming pool. My boyfriend kept poking at it with a stick and I kept saying "No! Don't do that it'll eat you!!"
Then sometime after my sister and I saw a little baby one on our drive way!
This one is way bigger than the ones I found.

This one was the biggest, meanest turtle I've ever encountered. Put up quite the fight.

Thanks Nervarah..

^ I don't think PEI does, but Prince Edward County is located on Lake Ontario near Trenton and Belleville and they have snappers by the bucketful.

Oops! My bad.

Funny I've never been to Prince Edward County. I mean I've been through Belleville a few times but never Prince Edward County.

Oh man, good thing you were able to get your dog out of the water in time. I've seen plenty of these snappers out in Prince Edward County, Ontario and they always amaze me as animals.

Ya it was a real close call for sure!

I never knew that PEI had snappers...
I visited there many years ago. Great little Island..

Trust me I really wanted to Ash. Unforchunatly these guys are now considered endangered in my area, so I just found it a new home.

starfirerose In reply to Tasky [2007-11-06 00:53:05 +0000 UTC]

Wow really, endangered!!! There every where here. Sometimes its hard just to fish because the snapping turtles keep stealing your bait or eating your fish you have already caught!

It's weired, I know.
For the past ten years our marsh and swamp lands have been disappearing due to drought and residential housing.
When I was a kid I use to see these guys a lot but this is the first in about ten years or so, that I've come across.

Wow!!! Hummingbirds, frogs, turtles! This pond of yours is amazing!
All we have in our "back yard" are squirrels, a ground hog, a rabbit and a skunk.
Some of which I don't wish to photograph, and the others don't want to be photographed.

You must have stealth wellington boots.

Oh, and great capture!

Where abouts in your back yard dose this skunk live?

La-Tomate In reply to Tasky [2007-10-09 15:30:53 +0000 UTC]

Most recently? Under my BBQ. My Father-in-law was visiting last week from Scotland and was happy to tell me that he was awake at 4am, trying to coax the skunk from under the BBQ. When I started to gibber about "Are you MAD? You'll be walking to the airport if you get sprayed!" - he shrugged his shoulder "Can't be THAT bad" - I almost wanted him to be sprayed.

We don't use our BBQ as often as Canadian Law requires - perhaps 3 or 4 times a year - so he's happilly been napping under there. The skunk. Not my father-in-law. He's since returned home odor free.

Wow Windy, your father-in-law was very lucky!
Bud was sprayed by a skunk last winter and that smell stayed with him for months after.
lol Funny, I always just took for granted that skunks were all over the world. Probably because of all the Peppy La Pew cartoons I watched as a kid..

..hahahaha... Yah that makes sense!

... took my years to figure out what "horseandfeffer" was. (10 bonus points if you can figure out what I'M talking about!)

Tasky In reply to La-Tomate [2007-10-22 15:55:33 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea what a horseandfeffer is!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

La-Tomate In reply to Tasky [2007-10-23 12:52:37 +0000 UTC]

hehehehehe. In an old Bugs Bunny cartoon (the best in my opinion - I LOVE old Merrie Melodies/Hanna Barbera/Warner Bros.) ... Yosemite Sam was a chef to some King - and the King demanded that he "BRING ME MY HORSENFEFFER" ... so Yosemite Sam catches Bugs and tries to serve him - but fails and so Yosemite Sam is ejected from the castle - and then Bugs serves the King carrots and he STILL demands his horseneffer - and so Bugs brings him SALT & PEPPER and he's happy.
Or something like that. I love it.

Tasky In reply to La-Tomate [2007-10-23 14:45:25 +0000 UTC]

Right On!

I totally forgot about that episode..

Cartoons were in a league all of there own, back in the day.
It's hilarious! They wont even play the old Tom and Jerry cartoons now a days, because they say it's way too violent for kids.

La-Tomate In reply to Tasky [2007-10-23 19:50:06 +0000 UTC]

Yah. I know. And there was a study done back home that said that nursery rhymes and such were more violent than prime time TV. It's crazy. El Husandino is an ECE - and he's horrified by all these "studies".
