The finished piece with the rough edges and the photo with the graffiti in the background makes this a really nice piece! The model and the costume are of professional quality! You are very lucky to have a project come together so completely. This does the character of Tank-Girl justice. Congrats to all that were involved!

Thank you! I have actually wanted to do a Tank Girl series for years so I was stoked to find a like-minded soul for this!

Yes, you're lucky it all worked out so well! I think it was meant to be. What's the next project for you?

Break. Long, long, long break LOL I am just gonna sort through all the past shoots and find sets that I can make money off, do a couple days editing a week, get a day job and catch up on reading and things I like to do I have forsaken the past seven years. And if I have a spectacular idea I just have to to do I'll do that but otherwise I won't be shooting again for a long time.

Β Seven years is a looong time to not take a break, my friend! Best of luck with everything, enjoy Halloween and the upcoming Holidays, and spoil yourself because you deserve it! Unless something brilliant comes along...

It has been a long weird 7 years LOL I'll be honest about this biz (or hobby for some), at least in my experience, there is just NEVER any middle. It's either REALLY AWESOME or REALLY SHITTY. And trying to reconcile the two gets old fast. Even just days where I like marathon watch some movies end up being more meaningful to me because it's so rare now to just shut this life off and not have to think about it for a few hours. So burn out happens. A break is necessary. I know photographers who just eventually stopped and never came back again.

I suppose for hobbyists it's easier because they look forward to it but I have had to depend on it to survive for three years now. I find myself quick to anger now. Depressed more often. Drink too much, too fast, too often. So yeah, a good break would do me some good. I mean, even just six months of something else. I could just read comic books for six months LOL Feel re-invigorated instead of stressed.

Well, I have read your Note many times trying to decide how to respond.Β  I really wish the best for you and all of your future projects.Β

Perhaps, if you have the means, maybe you need to travel outside of your comfort zone. You might want to travel next door, or to Asia or New York City. Just get out from where you are are. Also, put the drink down. Abandon it for a while and climb a mountain, it will clear your head and help you figure out where to turn next.Β

Having said that, bring some comics or chocolates or whatever brings you happiness along with you upon your Travels.Β

While I am a Hobbyist, I wish to make it as a Professional! (Do you have any advice?)

I have traveled to South America, Europe and the Eastern United States of America. I feel very lucky and blessed as many people have never traveled past the downtown area.

PLEASE, come back to DA and all of the other artists in the community. Please, release your anger and try to temper your energy into something useful. Like charity, or a children's hospital or sending comic books to soldiers in the army.Β

Stand on your feet, stand on a box, or stand on a mountain: whatever you choose, just change your view of the world and make a change. You can laugh at me or laugh at Mel Brooks, but know there is someone out here for you!

Oh yeah, I included your "Tank Girl" photo in a recent Journal Feature. I hope it brings you some more visitors and attention. It will be up on my Profile page for a few more days. Check it out, if you have the time. Good luck on relaxing or whatever you choose to do...

Yeah I just need a breather. I'll still be editing and getting stuff up but not shooting for a little bit. Hmmm, my advice is shoot EVERYTHING. Shoot as often as possible.Β  Try to make subjects that aren't exactly what you want to shoot interesting. Like my recent photo of the broken glass. I don't normally shoot broken glasses but I looked at and tried to make it interesting. I would also find a photog in your area to buddy up with and learn from. In terms of Photoshop, I think people should depend on it less. People use it too often to correct mistakes. It's a much cooler tool if you got your shot when you took it and you can concentrate on making it better. So stay away from tricks and stuff like diffuse glow and concentrate on levels, curves, brightness, contrast, etc. Things you would do a dark room versus things you would do as a graphic designer. Once you are confident that your shots are good then start playing with Photoshop LOL

And lighting is KEY. That's generally the difference between an amateur (or in some cases, just bad) photographer and a good one. Lighting. I know photographers who have done this for years and still don't get lighting at all. I love natural light personally. But I recommend learning to shoot with strobes by starting out with one strobe.Β  Build up to using a few. If you can nail shots with one strobe just think what you can do when you have a bunch to play with. If you can't afford reflectors, improvise. Especially in natural light a lot of things like windows and sidewalks work as natural reflectors!

Anyway, thanks the time to write out such a thoughtful, kind message. I appreciate it.

That's really great advice! Thank you for that! I agree that people rely too much on Photoshop, I believe you should capture whatever is in front of you, whether you're on the street or studio.

Have you ever thought about doing tutorials on DA about photography?

Simply sublime work. Wonderful perspective lines and framing and a beautiful, utterly compelling pose, make this a faultless image. More please
