what did you use to do this, flats or rounds?

I used a 5 mag (very loose) for the shading and the tight detail like the eyes and some of the small stuff i used a tight 3 round. I never use rounds to fill in it tend to cause too much tissue trauma and usually winds up getting way to scabby.

wow....i usually have just the opposite...i get scabbies with mags! when you say "loose" (forgive the lack of knowledge of the slang, it varies so much from state to state, shop to shop) do you mean really slow? it must take you quite a while to work these pieces with such small sets...

No I mean they are not soldered too close to the tips there is usually a little over a half inch or more of needle showing before the solder. I also tip my contact screw way back so the flat edge of the bottom, barely touches the spring tip. This allows for a softer hit and allows you to work the area a little more, starting lighter and slowly bringing in more black. I use pelican ink in two large caps then two caps of distilled water to mix as I go. The warrior took me about 4 1/2 hours.

oh wow....what a great idea! do you make your own needles *apologizes for profusely picking your brain* i'm always trying to learn new stuff....i tip my screw like that as well, i have mickey sharpz, i agree with you on the softer hit....i gotta try that looser bit....'course, that might be really tough because our shop gets the needles premade and its only about 1/4 inch of needle before the solder, really tight....

I actually buy mine premade, got too damn busy to do it otherwise the mags I get from them are great.I get my stuff through Elbee Dental and Tattoo Supply, I'll get the phone number tomorrow and send it to you, the owner, John is a great guy, bends over backwards for us, tries to beat any prices anywhere else. You should try them. For machines I use mickey sharpz for a liner and I use two Time Machine Invader Shaders for my color and greywash. Each is set up so I don't have to bounce back and forth. You can learn some great wash techniques if you're at a convention where Tom Renshaw does a seminar. I found I had alot of the same philosophies when it comes greywash that he does, but taking the seminar allowed me to fine tune alot of them.

dude, thanks for the number, i'll definitely check them out. i'd like to get one of those time machines...everybody that i talk to that has them has nothing but good things to say.....i've got mine set up so i don't have to bounce either...but i'm in the market for a new shader....oh lordayh lordayh i'd love to go to a Tom Renshaw seminar...i can just imagine what one could learn....what kind of philosophies do you have on greywash? i'm still trying to get the handle on them...i fare well enough, but i'm always tryin to learn more....i'm a color freak at heart...

The number for Elbee is 800-618-5399. Tell them we sent you. You can go to the Time Machine website to order them. Just be warned at the 5 year mark the coils with shit to bed on you. I'll get back to yoou on the philosophies later, gotta get back to work.

You should be able to get a print from Luis Royo's website. [link] or through Heavy Metal magazine. I took it from a calendar I purchased.
