Description Will was a regular college student who liked to keep to himself. He didn't care much about socializing or making friends. He just wanted to get good grades and graduate. He had a routine: wake up, go to class, study, eat, sleep, repeat.

One day, he noticed a new student in his biology class. She was a girl in a wheelchair, with long brown hair and blue eyes. She had a blanket over her legs, and a smile on her face. She seemed to be popular with the other students, who greeted her warmly and offered to help her with anything. Will didn't understand why she was so popular. He thought she was just another attention-seeker who used her disability as an excuse. He was the only one who ignored her.

After class one day, the girl approached Will and asked him for his help with the homework. Will was confused as to why she asked him. He didn't know her name, and he had never spoken to her before. He asked her why she chose him, and she said it was because he was the only one who didn't try to treat her special. She said she liked his honesty and indifference. She said her name was Marina, and she was new to the college. She asked him if he would tutor her in biology, and he reluctantly agreed.

The next day, Will went to Marina's dorm room to help her with the homework. He knocked on the door, and she opened it. She invited him in, and he was surprised to see a small inflatable pool in the room filled with water. Marina noticed his stare, and said that the pool helped make her legs comfortable if they start to hurt. She said it helped her relax and feel at home. Will thought it was weird, but he didn't say anything. He followed her to a table, where she had her books and papers. She thanked him for coming, and asked him to sit down.

They started working on the homework, and Will explained some of the concepts to her. He noticed that she was smart, but she had some difficulties with some of the human terms and ideas. She asked him a lot of questions, and he answered them patiently. He realized that she was curious and eager to learn. He also noticed that she had a soft and soothing voice, and that she looked at him with a friendly and sincere expression. He felt a strange connection with her, and he started to enjoy their conversation.

After they finished the homework, Marina asked Will if he wanted to see something. She said it was a secret, and that he had to promise not to tell anyone. Will was intrigued, and he agreed. Marina smiled, and said she trusted him. She then took off her blanket, revealing that she had a fish tail instead of legs. She was a mermaid.

Will was shocked, and he gasped. He couldn't believe his eyes. He asked her how it was possible, and she explained that she was from an underwater kingdom, and that she came to the surface to study human culture and biology. She said that she used the wheelchair and the blanket to hide her identity. She said that as a mermaid, she had the ability to enchant others when she spoke, and that was why everyone liked her. She said that she didn't like that power, and that she wanted to make friends based on who she was, not what she was. She said that for some reason, Will was immune to her enchantment, and that was why she found him easy to trust. She said that he was the first human who saw her for who she really was, and that she wanted to be his friend.

Will was speechless, and he didn't know how to react. He felt a mix of emotions: surprise, disbelief, curiosity, fear, and wonder. He looked at Marina, and he saw that she was nervous and hopeful. He saw that she was not a liar, but a brave and honest explorer. He saw that she was not a stranger, but a potential friend. He decided to give her a chance, and he smiled. He said he wanted to be her friend too.

Marina was overjoyed, and she hugged him. Feeling like she didn’t need to hide who she was anymore, she moved into the pool where she was much more comfortable. Will took a seat in her wheelchair, and they continued to study. To gain knowledge from the class, but also to gain knowledge from a new friend.
