Creative title is creative...

SO. After talking to sealle and Desperish about my art and the direction I'm trying to take it, I realized that my biggest weakness is lack of tone in my paintings. I flat color and rely on layer effects to shade, which in turn, results in rather flat pieces. I've seen a lot of these color palette challenges floating around and I thought this might be a great way to break my 'bad' habits and stretch my abilities.

This one was an eye opener for sure. It was both a failure and a success. I had intended it to be a speed paint, but ended up working on it for about four hours total. I got too caught up in the details and didn't lay down a good enough base sketch to work off of (resulting in me having to re-size Anna really far into the painting and costing me a lot of time), BUT this did teach me that I need to spend a bit more time on groundwork and the color can come faster. I also really, really struggled with picking which tone to use where at first, but it became easier as I went. So while this didn't turn out the way I envisioned it, I am still really happy with it because it taught me an incredible amount in a short time. I look forward to completing this challenge and seeing where it takes me as an artist.
