I can see this as being one of those grainy monochrome silent French romance movies, it'd be an interesting prospect for one to be done with the characters in the movie always wearing their masks, the only way to identify them being their clothing or masks having variations in them with the removal of a mask being a great societal taboo or sign of affection to a loved one in privacy. Not practical, but its scifi, practicality is an after thought when compared to romanticism and entertainment.
