and my head wants my comics to be in the same consistent "AU" or whatnot, and could not bear the thought of apparent contradiction, and demanded an explanation. I piece together that when Erwin lost his arm and was faced with recovery and coming to terms with a new direction for the rest of his life, he learned some new things about self love, yeah he sleeps with the lights on now what of it, maybe he's finally decided he's important enough to actually try and escape some of those nightmares he earned.
