Eren Jaeger always hated pirates and wanted to grow up and join the navy and exterminate them all so people in the coastal towns wouldn’t have to live in fear. Then a group of pirates kill his mother, and the only immediate chance that shows up to go chasing after them turns out to be teaming up with MORE pirates who are enemies of the ones he wants dead (Tavs didn’t they do that in Pirates of the Caribbean). Also Mikasa and Armin tag along. So Eren finds himself the subordinate of the real life versions of the spoopy storybook villains he and his friends would always play at vanquishing as kids. It gets more complicated, though, because Captain Smith is secretly only being a pirate as part of a larger endgame, the government is corrupt, pirates aren’t the only reasons the townsfolk have to live in fear, and this is his best shot at gathering a resistance force. Hanji is an overly-enthusiastic naturalist (Tavs didn’t they have an overly-enthusiastic in those books by Patrick O’Brian that you like). 3D gear exists in this AU for some reason, and Levi is a BOSS at it, Mikasa finds out she’s BOSS at it too, wow, 3D gear and old school ships and epic battles are a combination I did not know I needed. Nile is a fancy rich person, and he and his family live in a coastal town and greatly benefit from the government corruption, and Erwin and the Doks are good friends and hang out sometimes even though they shouldn’t be friends in any universe that makes sense. Nile’s house is full of stupid knickknacks Erwin finds on voyages, and every now and then Erwin gets random fancy food like plum sake and black tea from Nile. Jean and Marco and a lot of the trainee kids are random crew members on the Wings of Freedom, and Eren and Jean don’t get along because Jean likes being a pirate and thinks it’s a totally acceptable lifestyle. Marco is Jean’s best friend. Marco doesn’t die. Levi’s squad is here too, and they don’t die either. Maybe Mike’s the gunner. He can tell when they’re close to land by smelling the air. He doesn’t die also. Eren can transform into some kind of sea monster, they find out later?? (has that been done??) Anyway someone write the fic
