I think this represents how kids get misjudged by others. This picture (and most of the album) shows a perception of how a child has the need to try to be pretty to please others, just so they can have a few friends. The doll is representing the only friend she has, because most kids first friends are their toys. But some kids get laughed at or picked on once they attend school, so the only friend the victim has is their most treasured toy they play with.
