First off, I would just like to say how striking this piece is! The impact it has is astonishing.
The simple colours work really well here, where less is more! I love the modern feel that the blues and silver give aswell, and the whole thing is pretty much well-composed.
I do think that it could have done with something subtle in the background, though- something reflecting the blue-and-silver theme, like a faint pattern or something.
Apart from that though, brilliant work!

Thanks a bunch, glad you liked. And i'm still not so bueno when it comes to back rounds and all that jazz. But in due time.

Much appreciated for your insight, hugs and kisses X's N O's.

Interesting, I like it.

You did a nice job on the structure and proportions of the face, I think. Her nose, mouth, and eyes really match up well size-wise. I also really like the colour of her eyes. It contrasts well with the blue hair.

I think overall, your shading is well-done, although the shadows over the eyes and on the forehead look slightly 'artificial' compared to the shading you did elsewhere. Still, overall, it looks good.

I like the minimalism in colour you've created here. It's not too little like what sometimes happens; it's subtle, but in a nice way. Although I can't say I understand the blue spots on her arm...

The texture of her hair is well-done too, I think. Although you kept with the minimalism, you still did a good job of adding the appropriate texture and shading, to make it look more realistic. It looks a bit weird around her right ear, but the rest of it is very good, I think.

The main thing I would change about all this is the lack of background. I know you said it was an exercise, more than anything else, but I think it still would have been nice to have some kind of scene in the background, even if it were to be a simple one.

Overall, though, I think you've got a good thing here, and I admire that you've decided to 'go back to the basics' to improve yourself, like you said in your comments. I think with some work, and continued building up of you artwork, you could really do some great stuff. Keep it up!

Great critique, I I should've focused on the overall pic like you said and did a full work out plan, lol. It's just a matter of time I go from minimalism to complex designs and all that jazz, just got to work from the ground up. Can't touch a cloud with out building the rockets, if you know what I mean. And yeah, I def got lazy on the forhead and eye areas, just gotta keep pushing.

Thanks for the comment, it's much appreciated.

Hello, #ProjectComment here !
For a quickie, I think it's pretty okay.
She hasn't a bad face and most of the shadows are all right. The has fun hair too.
Does she have shining blue marks ? XD

Now, for constructive part... Well... She doesn't have a really symetrical face. Look a the ear : they're not on the same line and it's really easy to see. So I suppose you didn't took too much attention of this part, since you say you tried practicing... My advice would be "never be afraid to spend time practicing" even if the result don't please you, you'll learn. She's pretty, but some mistakes could have easily be avoided.
Still, nice work on the shadows and 3D effect, especially on the lips, chin, neck and nose. The eyes could have been prettier with some eyelashes, don't you think ? But I guess this wasn't the main goal of this quickie, since you talked about the planes and structure of the face. I'd say it's a pretty good job. Some part are strange (some hair shadows missing), but it's really visible you worked and it's not bad at all !

Now, is it a random character or an OC ? It seem she'd be an interesting OC...

Ha haa, yeah. I was trying to go for shiny freckles and what not. And yeah, just noticed after that was pointed out, her ear is kind of wonky. And I hear ya, when it comes to practices I dick off a lot of things which is a bad habit of mines I need to break.

And eye lashes... totally forgot about those, lmao. And she's just random, I have disowned my OC's a long time ago, kinda feel sorry for my lil creations. Maybe one day I'll do a recall.

I think that for a quickie this certainly isn't bad. However, I feel like the colours may be just a bit too fuzzy and over-blended.
For instance the hair, which has some great colours already looks a bit flat and unstructured because the shadows aren't strong enough to define the strands of hair. Same goes for the skin, where I think you should try to get stronger shadows in there to define everything more clearly, which in turn will make the piece stand out more against the white background.

I do think you did an amazing job at defining the nose, so kudos on that! But, the area around the eyes lacks some definition, so I suggest looking at some references to find out where the shadows should go there to make it look more detailed and life-like. All in all it's a lovely drawing. I just think it could be so much more if you tweaked it a bit and weren't afraid of using bolder colours.

I was thinking the same thing, it needs more tones for a structured depth with in the image. And the hair is just flat and confusing, obviously quite a few things to work on. And I noticed that after you pointed that out as well, lol; the eyes have no defined structure.

And yeah, colors are def not my forte' lol. Gotta read up on some color theory so I can make something extravagant some day. Thanks for the encouragement.

X's & O's, hugs and kisses.

Ah, theories are all fine and dandy, but you also learn a lot from experimenting and having fun. I'd recommend to read it, but still try out some combinations yourself. I for instance found that a light lime green works really well for highlights with the way I colour skin-tones.

And I'm sure that if you experiment, try and just have fun with it you'll find colour-combos as well taht may seem wacky at first but actually work really well!

Lol, true; I just got done talking to some one about that some time ago. Just need to experiment and learn by trial and error.
