Her headphones sounded the lyrics to one of her beloved songs and the black feline couldn’t stop herself from humming the tune. She walked with a hop in her step, keeping rhythm with the drums. She was infatuated with the music. She tried keep her mind from wandering off as she stopped at the crossing of a street.

She pressed the button on the street light beside her and waited for the signal of safe crossing. Her eyes did not leave the sign until it had changed from a red hand to a person walking. She began to stroll across the street but before she made it halfway she was swept off her feet.

The cat pulled her headphones out of her ears and quickly looked up into the face of the man who was carrying her. Her violet eyes narrowed at the blue hedgehog. “What in the world are you doing, mister?” She cried.

The blue hedgehog looked down at her and was about to answer when he ran into a tree. The feline happily landed on her feet and watched the hedgehog fall backward. He wailed as he looked up at her with jealous eyes. She assumed he was unhappy he had not been as lucky as her.

“That’s what you get when you snatch a jinxed girl off the streets!” The feline shouted. She crossed her arms and continued to give him a death glare. “You’re a new level of obnoxious, aren’t you?”

“Woah, woah! Obnoxious? I just saved your life, jinx!” The blue hedgehog hollered, anger in his tone. He was rubbing his aching nose which was bleeding a bit. “You were almost a pancake!”

“Oh, likely story! It’s just my luck some idiot would choose me, out of all the girls on the street, to pick up! How in the heck did you do that so fast anyway?”

“Oh, so I’m an idiot now? So it was stupid to save a girl from getting run over by a car? Okay, I’ll make a mental note not to save anymore clueless girls from getting run over! Especially if they’re a black cat!”

“Clueless? The sign said walk! I walked!” Silence fell between the two. Embarrassment suddenly made its appearance on the black one’s cheeks. “I am so sorry for yelling at you! I am usually not so quick to make accusations! Clearly I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings. I should have paused my song.” She looked at the blue male with an apologetic look.

The blue hedgehog grinned. “Hey, it’s okay. We all make mistakes, I’m just glad you’re not mad anymore. I would hate to have to run into another tree again.” He let out a laugh as he held out his hand. “I’m Sonic. Sonic the hedgehog. I’m the local hero.”

The feline seemed surprised by Sonic’s quick forgiveness and sudden change of mood. Nevertheless, she giggled anyway. “Thanks for the save, Sonic. I’m Trixie, but my friends call me Trix.” Trixie happily took Sonic’s hand and shook it.

“Nice to meet ya, Trix!” Sonic replied. “So you’re a music fan? I’ve got a brother like that. He tends to avoid life or death situations, though.”

Trixie let out a laugh. “Yeah. I’m just unlucky like that. So, do you save girls from speeding vehicles often or was I just lucky?”

“What part of "local hero" do you not get?”

“Right. Sorry. Hey, since you’re the “local hero” and all, do you know any good place I could get a job?”

“Oh yeah! I know the perfect place!” Sonic wore an excited look on his face as he leaned closer to her. “Have you ever heard of a place called Uncle Chuck’s Dogs?”
