Description She just hopped on the rock, started balancing on one foot, and I'm sure that if she knew English, she'd say: "See what I can do?".
Well, maybe she did, but I don't know too much Swahili.

t2blah:
This started as a test pose (I often make "test poses" of my models to practice posing and seek out wrong anatomy) to practically test my new 'LGchoco' textures.

Well, everyone around me liked it, so it ended up here. ^^

I still don't like the kinda empty background, but everything I came up with messed up the composition.

This painting passed to my heart. I don't know if its her bright eyes, her serene expression, her expertise attitude.

Or maybe is because she's in synchrony with the nature, the empty background makes her the point of focus, but you still want to see the rest, the ground below her, the rock where she stands. Like she is transmitting a message of ''This is my earth, you're welcome to love it too''.
I just can't stop seeing it.

Only a true artist can do that, very well done, my friend.

I'm really sorry if you don't understand me at all, my english is awful, I try to make my best expounding myself >_<''

Oh my goodness, I don't believe I ever got such a wonderful comment.

Thanks to you, it's the first time I almost felt like a true artist!
Thank you!

And no, there's nothing wrong with your english.

I am speechless in front of such a beautiful picture.
I remembered your picture "Autograph" and wanted to see it again, saw that you got a DD for it (congratulations!! ), and then wandered around in your gallery to find this marvellous image.

It's so well done that it could esily be taken for a real photograph of a very beautiful doll.
I fell in love with your character

You really master your art to a wonderful extent!!

o_O

And I am speechless in front of such a comment.

Thanks a lot for the congrats - that DD really made my day.

Haha, while I wasn't aiming for the character to look like a doll, I still tried to make it all look like a photo, so thank you very much!

witch software you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to LcBarbosa [2010-01-04 10:42:53 +0000 UTC]

A lot.
3ds max (mental ray)
Zbrush (for sculpting and making texture bases)
Photoshop (for texture refining, compositing and postwork), though most elements of my pieces are textured with 3ds max procedurals. Like the dry mud here.

Wow, this is preety awsome, I'll try to learn 3ds max, or Maya, just to use the mental ray!

Any advice?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to LcBarbosa [2010-01-07 13:11:00 +0000 UTC]

Sure!
Mental ray gives the most amazing and photorealistic results, but it's not too efficient (takes loads of memory). There's also v-ray and brazil; v-ray is commercial and as good as mr, and brazil is free, but I found it too... umm... small. I mean, there are not as many options as in mr. But gives very good results too.

As for those two programs: 3ds max is big and a bit hard to learn, but has some neat modeling tools, while Maya is easy to learn, has more VFX and interesting tools (like: OMFG, 3ds max can't do a thing compared to this!), but the modeling tools are only those basic ones, though they're very smart and it's easy to make complicated actions with 'em.

I'd advise you to use Maya, but don't ask me anything about using it, cause I've just started learning it.

Hope this helps.

Just out of curiosity, what tools and materials do you use for this style of art?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to NyahKitty [2010-01-04 11:30:08 +0000 UTC]

I used 3ds max for rendering (with mental ray), Zbrush for sculpting, Photoshop for texturing, compositing and postwork.
And if you're asking about the 3ds max materials, then:
miSSS fast skin - for the skin (o rly? )
and the rest is generally mr Arch & Design - a very useful material.

NyahKitty In reply to tchaikovsky2 [2010-01-04 19:57:16 +0000 UTC]

My initial impression was that you made the characters out of sculpey baking clay, crafting them out of real, physical materials.

Just goes to show what a good job you're doing.

if you created the tex for the little girl "well done" so often the tex that are made for dark skin are lacking in someway. I also love the hair. mines looks just like that at the moment.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tchaikovsky2 In reply to FairyGirl0821 [2010-01-04 13:28:00 +0000 UTC]

That's probably because they usually forget about those bright parts on the hands and feet, and also a dark skin texture should have more visible built-in shading than white.

Thanks!

Sorry, but "abandon all hope fer that".
I mean, I've spent about two years (with pauses) on making the model, textures and the shader, plus, I wouldn't want to stumble upon an unpleasant piece with it (some people aren't human), and it's not rigged - you'd have to use Zbrush to pose it.

I think the 'empty background' gives alot more focus on the little girl. You did so well on this!

You're right, that's exactly what I meant by messing up the composition.
