Yeah, he's a bit of a homage to the Tokusatsu genre.
If you check out a lot of those tv series I've noticed that a lot of the heroes have similar mouth pieces. Kikaider is a little similar too.
I kind of like it, it makes it feel like they all exsist in the same universe.
