This is part of a collection of free artwork that I am giving away to my watchers for Ramadan.The word in this image is "Iqra". Iqra is a command. It means "Read" or "Recite".
It is highly significant since it was the first word of the Quran ever recited by the Angel Jibrael (Gabriel). It was an order to read the holy book (Quran), when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was reluctant and said he does not know how to read.
Ramadan is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims do not eat or drink anything from dawn until sunset. Fasting is meant to teach the person patience and humility. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer even more prayer than usual. In Ramadan Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance into the future, ask for help in refrain from everyday evils and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds.

This piece touches me for so many reasons. Iqra, meaning read or recite is significant for me as a Muslim and lover of the Prophet. Also as an avid read and published author, the written word has even deeper significance. This piece almost speaks directly to me. I like the repetition and find this significant also as we learn in Islam that repetition is necessary to learn a good habit. I believe the number is forty days. I like that there is smaller writing in magenta and red overlaid with the larger calligraphy in white. For me this symbolizes the passion of first learning or fresh starts versus the light (white) of having reached the goal or success. Even under the text there is texture, however light. The only thing I would prefer here is a darker background, perhaps black or dark brown to make the calligraphy atop really pop. This is lovely.
