He's the only son of Rani. She and Kion had been trying to conceive for a while but something wasn't working. Nirmala suggested it maybe an effect of the venom from the snake that gave Kion his scar.

Kion enlisted the help of his half-brother Malik, he'd met him briefly and the two were actually pretty close. Malik wasn't sure at first, his mate Zuri explained that Kion asked his brother because they would need an heir to the night-pride. She understood Malik was only helping their allies. Malik eventually agreed. Word was sent to the pridelands that Rani was successfully pregnant. Zuri, Malik and their cubs stayed with the night-pride for a while until the birth. The cub's resemblance to Malik was clear but Kion couldn't have been happier, he kept thanking his brother saying he would never be able to repay him.

Malik assure Kion that he was just happy to help the Night Pride.

Najuma grew to be a rather stubborn cub. He was a little spoiled by his father Kion. Possibly because Kion had always wanted a family of his own and Najuma was the closes he was going to get it would seem. Kion worried about there being too much Zira in him. Surak assure Kion that wasn't the case Rani and Baliyo both had a really mean streak to them, if anything he took after his mother. As Najuma started royal lessons and gained some structure to his life he calmed down becoming even more like his mother in spirit.
