Even though I enjoyed the movie, I think the Simpsons should have ended when it was released, so the movie will be more successful as the show's finale.

It focused way too much on gags and one-liners and making sure that every supporting character received their ten-second cameo. The plot of the movie gets buried in these gags and cameos and as it result it comes off as a four-part-episode rather than a movie. The movie should have ditched half of the gags and added more fresh things to make it movie-like.
Also, it was made too late as well, after dozens of episodes used up many story ideas. If it had been made at the end of the 90s, there would be loads more fresh ground to cover and create a movie out of.

I think the worst thing about the movie is its pacing. It feels like a 2-hour movie, even though it's under the 90-minute mark.
As for the cameos, at least most of them are short, and for a movie whose plot involves the entire city, not using any of the well-known citizens would've felt wrong. However, I guess I could at least take your side on them feeling like the writers are being people-pleasers and not wanting to leave out any of the major fan favorite characters.
As for the plot, it's a little on the simple, 2-dimensional side, but I feel like it does the job, even if the Maggie deus ex machina was kind of weak writing. However, it's not liek the writers weren't trying. This thing took about 6 years to develop and I'm surprised they got it out back in 2007. Judging by the commentaries, a Simpsons movie at even the early 2000s might have not been as good as the one we got to see.
I do feel like it's more than a multi-part episode, though, and that's just for the animation quality taking a serious step up.

I agree with the Maggie ending. It made no sense as to how she got there and the death scene in general was extremely lame. Ultimately the thing which hindered the movie the most was the fact that it never really took off. Every time it felt like something great was going to happen, a gag or cameo got in the way. The point of a movie is to scale up the adventure to make it epic with new, unique situations. The film had very few of those. I do agree however with the animation being fantastic, and the opening scenes were good. Everything up to the part where the Simpsons escape the dome is pretty good. It then becomes boring from that point. IMHO.

Idk if I can count it as a death scene. After all, more people get concussions and skull fractures than actual deaths via getting hit in the head with a rock. I would've liked the original pitched ending with president Schwartzenegger hitting Cargill in the head with a tree branch. However, in the series canon, Maggie's used firearms deliberately on several occasions, so this isn't too farfetched.
Yeah, that's where the pacing starts slowing down, almost to the point where the climax isn't quick enough and seems normally-paced by comparison. More needed to be at stake and not with just a ticking clock variable.

Spider-Pig can actually pass as a good summary of the type of humor on the Simpsons.
Unfortunately, that also makes it a good summary of how it on the whole sucks.

I stopped watching The Simpsons after Season 6 or 7. To be honest, it just fell flat on me anymore. This movie looked like a turd and Bart Simpson showing off his junk made it all that much worse. Literally, I saw 3 minutes of this movie and I quit watching it.

Yes. Not only does Homer do things that are so bad, even for homer, he doesn't even apoligise. He only does a half-assed one near the end and I think saving the city should not mean instant-redemption. Homer never considered the fact the clean meant something to Lisa and thought "Fuck it!" and just threw in literal pig shit that caused the turn of events to happen.

No, it's just terrible writing. The people who write this show now, not the original creators, are probably young people who are doing nothing more than writing their own Simpsons fanfics while throwing in pop culture references, hence why the characters are now cardboard cut-out versions of their former selves.

These recent episodes are surprisingly short and forgettable at best and painful to watch at worst as it messes with the structure of the series and tries to be unrealistic like Family Guy. Recent celebrity guests are just awful and the HD look is ugly.
I know Homer is accident-prone but never to a point where is suddenly chocked by a window cell despite being in be a second before, that is absolute bullshit. Not to mention Lisa's no longer a child genius but rather an angry Liberal-douche mini-teen. When was the last time she ever played her saxophone?

*suddenly chocked by a window cell despite being in be a second before, that is absolute bullshit.* Dude is a cartoon XD. and the new seasons aren't that bad. I hate it when people judge a episode that they never see. If critics were like that NO ONE would listen to a movie, read a book or eat at a restaurent. I would like to be a critic(Not sure in what yet). But if I become one I would never say that something suck before I know about it. and the HD we are in 2013 not the 90s. You got to get used to it because in the future everything's gonna work with technology(robots) XD.

Well then reboot the show altogether, don't drag the show's continuity on a rough land with jagged rocks everywhere.
Hell, the original writers actually made fun of the idea of how shows stagnate such as:
1. Bart asks why The Cosby Show is no longer on and Homer said Bill Cosby didn't want the show to stagnate. Bart then said if he had a show, he would run it the ground.
2. In the second Halloween special, Bart wished he and his family were rich and famous with loads of money, ridiculous merchandise which was enough to disgust the townsfolk.
Simpsons actually made fun of the idea if it went on too longer but now what's they've become. This falls the "Harsher in Hindsight" trope.
What if F.R.I.E.D.S. and Scrubs still kept going? Nobody would watch them anymore.

I prefer thje new ones. The old ones are boring to me since I already know what will happened. I was watching a episode yesterday, and didn't paid very much attention to it. I am the only person in the world that love new things sometimes I fell like I don't belong here since everyone love old things. Is the snae with food, I can send many weeks eating something that I like but then after that I get tired of it.

I didn't like the movie either especially that "Spider Pig" shit. It was annoying as my cousin kept singing that horrid song and the main villains should've been Mr. Burns and Sideshow Bob, not some generic with Hank Scorpio's voice. In fact having Hank Scorpio would've been better. I can't believe the writers and animators of the film showed Bart's penis. Are they mad!?

I started to hate the Simpsons since Phil Hartman died. Ever since 1999, the show started to suck big time. I guess FOX wanted to jump on the bandwagon of appealing to the lowest common denominater.
