Me and the fandom usually don't get along...but this time around I can't blame them for flipping their you know what when the two writers were announced for Sonic Forces.and to those saying "But new writers could help bring new things to the table", that doesn't mean you get 2 bums who know NOTHING about the series, and run a muck of it, as these two goofs have clearly done...
And I know GrandMetroViper is probably going to make fun of me for this fact, but I honestly do wish Ian Flynn was the writer for Sonic forces. I'm not his biggest fan, but if he was writing, I doubt that Ian Flynn would have Tails "give up" until Sonic comes back when the 2 tailed fox could easily lead a resistance till Sonic does come back, and I also doubt he'd continue Sonic's personality and OP bullshit.
LOOK UP IN THE SKY! IT'S OUR SAVOR, LORD SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! HE'S HERE TO SAVE THE WORLD! NOTHING CAN STOP HIM!

Actually, no. Shun Nakamura is both producing and writing the game. Graff is the English writer, so with Nakamura-san writing, we may get a story with good writing to the game.

Figures. Sega are too fucking cheap to hire better writers. Just like they're too cheap to hire a better voice cast.(I long for they day Sonic doesn't sound like a constipated 40 year old.)

I get the impression that more the time passes and more the Sonic's scenario becomes bland, boring and uninteresting for the series.
I do not like to say "before was better" but before the story revolved around the Chaos Emeralds, Shadow's past, Sol Emeralds...Β And they had some impact on the series most of the time, it was an adventure you wanted to live because they were important and revealed information about characters or elements of Sonic universe.
Now it's mostly "Eggman does something and Sonic has to stop it".Β I have the feeling of seeing a succession of uneccessary adventures whose sole purpose is to give importance to Sonic.

yeah. It gets older and older and just isn't worth the ride. It would be nice if eggman wasn't the villain for once (mostly in the RPG games but even in Mario games Bowser isn't behind something). but sega is probably not going to do that for the most part...

One of Eggman's problems is that ... he has already beenΒ outclassedΒ by the other vilains for a long time:
-Chaos and Metal Sonic revolted andΒ Have proven that they represent greater threats.
-He was ridiculed in Rival 1 and 2 by Eggman Nega and by Dark Gaia in Unleashed.
-Mephiles, Dark Queen and even Erazor Djinn were more interesting, complex and intriguing villains.
Eggman was a respectable villain at the beginning when he transformed animals into robots and Sonic CD left it thought that it would become even more dangerous if we follow the logic "Metal Sonic = Sonic of the future that was defeated and robotized by Eggman". But unfortunately ... now Eggman is easily comparable to the Rocket team in Pokemon: the villain who represent more a nuisance than a real threat.
And Sonic Forces completely ridicules his character as he transforms the feat to conquer the world into a huge joke because Eggman managed to do it, not because he defeated Sonic but because... Sonic was absent. (It's pitiful when the screenwriters can not even put the main hero in danger or just in difficulty)

Yeah and honestly, his personality and ambitions no longer evolves (as for all the characters in the series in fact).Β
This is one of the things I most criticize SEGA (and the fact that the other characters have become useless), the scenario stagnates at a level where you wonder if it is necessary to create one since There may be no impact for the rest of the series.
I even wonder if I should still consider the Sonic games as adventure games since the scenario and exploration are no longer really a priority ? The boost formula is not bad, but honestly ... it gives especially the impression of played a speedrun where the goal is arrived at the finish line as quickly as possible.

I freaking -wish- Flynn was writing for the games. He's out of a job now and no-one likes Pontaff, it may be too late for Forces but now's the perfect opportunity to have him on board.

he's not out of a job seeing as he does write for other Archie books but I agree, and I'm not his biggest fan but I'd prefer his writing which at least captures the characters pretty well unlike Pontaff and his buddy who do a poor job at writing the characters.

To be fair, you don't really need prior experience with a particular franchise to be hired to work for it. Sonic X was dubbed and Sonic the Comic written completely blind and Ryan Drummond only ever played Sonic 1 (Game Gear version) in a pub once upon release, to name a couple of examples. A cursory knowledge, good skill and prior experience in the field is all that's really needed.
What Pontaff did wrong was not doing their homework on the canon -after- they were brought onboard and childishly besmirching anyone who criticizes them in an unprofessional manner, like Sonic Forces fans.
It baffles me how they got the job in the first place. True they have a large portfolio and had worked with SEGA before for Madworld, but Madworld aside it was full of crap. Before they worked on Madworld, I literally only knew about them through a crappy old cartoon I used to watch called Mucha Lucha and prayed they got their act together since then (nnnnnope). I have to wonder who else auditioned and lost out to these dopes.
The fact they're writing for a game like Forces when their prior experience at writing for higher-stakes Sonic plots (Lost World) has been fucking awful fills me with dread.

True the comics have some of the best stories, arguably better than the games to name a few.
They worked on mucha lucha? That show was nuts. I remember them having these crazy transformations. Huh that does make sense with the wisp era... Almost anyone would have been better.
They don't know sonic or the characters, they've been flanderized to hell and back. Sonic became an insufferable douche, with constant jokes. Tails became a know it all, instead of the kind hearted kid he used to be. Knuckles suffered the worst, he became an idiotic musclehead. The dude was pretty intelligent in older games gullibility aside. He was also dutiful and humble.
God they ruined the characters.

I can't stand Pontac and Graffs writing for Sonic games, it's the main reason why Colors, Generations and Lost worlds Story were filled with bland, Juvenile, unfunny dialogue.

I'd say they care about Sonic as a product but not as an integral piece of gaming history that needs to be treated with respect and care. This depreciating future of bland self awareness, in jokes and memes is only a band aid over a bigger wound.Β

All of this is why I'm glad that I'm just getting Sonic mania. Yes, it is a pandering to classic fans and looks like a rom hack, but I'll take a game like that over two jack asses making a joke out of Sonic and being the reason why everyone shits on the franchise.

Yeah I'll agree I have problems with both but I'm not going to be petty. I'm probably just going to stick with Mania and maybe get Forces out of curiosity. I might just literally wait for people to judge it first then weight in if I want to get it or not.Β
