The story of an alternative world, with its ups and downs, told essentially from the point of view of Cassandra Kalabrio, a young girl forced to leave her native village to live in a boarding school in the city, unable to continue her schooling in the village. The first 14 pages constitute the prologue, a kind of "chapter zero" before the real beginning of the story, when Cassandra actually leaves her native village to go to... "the crazies"?
