Match has always been interested in love. When he was a foal, his favorite stories were the ones of knights saving princes and princesses, and then them living happily ever after. All of his family would joke that he'd be a hopeless romantic when he grew up, but he never really liked that idea. It was kinda cute to see two other ponies in love, but he never really felt the need to fall in love himself.
Besides, he was still just a kid, and he wanted to focus on other things. Like taking care of his little sister, or playing with the colts he was friends with.
When he was 15, he mentioned to his parents that he didn't really feel like a filly. He did some research, and eventually discovered that he was transgender. His parents didn't quite understand it, but tried their best to respect his wishes.
Match didn't get his cutie mark for a long time, which made him worried. What if he never got one? He heard stories of adult ponies who never found their special talent, and he wanted to make sure he found his. After trying many things pegasai commonly are talented in, he felt discouraged.
But one day, after comforting a friend find the courage to tell his feelings to the mare he liked, his cutie mark appeared, and he felt like he should have known all along.

After thinking this through and figuring out the pros and cons, he decided that he wanted to adopt a foal. After all the paperwork and other hoops to jump through, Alley "Trouble" Oop became his legal daughter.
Now, Match tries earning as much money as he can for the two of them by giving detailed matchmaking advice and counseling for couples who aren't getting along, but sometimes he doesn't get enough business. Luckily, dating services are almost always looking for help to make their speed dating and instant match systems better, although Match Maker finds those things to be much more boring than working with actual ponies.
