I honestly think this is pretty cool, regardless of the fact that I'm not into Game of Thrones, Hunger Games, et cetera.

I think that, while it may be a fun exercise to combine worlds for writers, it won't be quite as amusing. What makes the art so great is the fact that it's two very different but distinct art styles being brought together. It's not about the universes combining for me, it's about the combination of the aesthetics.

Nothing against the examples already there, but 's A Tale As Old As Time deserves a mention in the MLP section.

The question itself is a tad confusing. By "our", do you mean pro writers much in the same way Warren Specter helmed Epic Mickey, which was sort of implied by the preview image? Or by OUR, do you mean writers on deviantArt?
For the first one, yes, I'd love to see more official AUs done by competent people, Disney has a very valuable sandbox to play in. I know people complain about all these "Disney Princesses as [x]" blog posts online, but obviously there's a demand for it.
For the second one, yes, mostly because you know the fanfic writers are on that, have been on that, and always will be on that. A lot of Disney stuff is technically high falootin' fanfic anyways, The Lion King is practically Hamlet but with animals with a (coincidental or otherwise? Potentially infringing? That's a different can of worms) dash of Leo the Jungle Emperor. That's not intended to be a diss towards Disney or The Lion King, far from it! There's just a lot of fanworks that we don't acknowledge as being similar to fanfic because people are still under the assumption of fanfic as this inherently bad thing only toyed around by young lovesick girls and young powertripping boys. (Even if they are, that doesn't mean those two groups can't do it well. Also, for fanfic, you have to sift through to find the stuff that fits your taste, much like any other media, so if you don't like what those groups put out, it's not even that big a deal?) That and for some reason, being derivative matters less (or it matters but in a different context) when there's a big corporate sticker on it instead of someone just doing it at their computer with no corporate co-sign whatsoever.

As with all muses and inspiration, this becomes a double-edged sword. Throughout its history, the works of Disney have awakened and stirred a series of emotions inside us. These emotions in turn lead to the creation of such fanart, especially when we want to combine our interests together. If a person likes Disney and Star Wars, hence the crossover fanart.
Another reason is for the challenge - how far can I take a well-loved character and bend it? What will it be like if I place this character in another scenario or another world? How will the character change? How will it stay the same?
Other than crossovers, 'gender benders' are a rather popular fanart notion. Yay for Rule 63 of the Internet. Call it fantasy, curiosity or challenge, one does wonder what it is like for the roles to take on opposite genders? Again, going back to my point about the challenge. On the other hand, Disney songs (especially the ones from the Disney Princesses) have pretty much ripped through our core, so don't we all swoon over the idea of a gorgeous guy belting out the same tunes? ....or maybe that's just me...
Of course, as some statements have thus stated (see what I did there? ), such Disney fanart may have been overdone and thus loses its novelty over time due to replication or imitation. If taken too far without the right restrictions, it could fall in the same category as My Little Pony; things will no longer be safe for children to search online. It could eventually be a dying trend or an object of cliche fanservice...note the 'could'.
However, art is art, and fanart is appreciation of art, so if it makes everyone happy, that's alright. I say great job to everyone whose work has been featured here: Keep doing your thing, mates!
As for myself, I have a Disney AU roleplay blog...the AU is 'Magical Boy'. Yes...male Sailor Disney Princesses (or 'Boueibu' Disney Princesses, if you guys have seen that anime). Go, me. :/

I think it's amazing, of course artists should keep doing that! The best of both worlds? Maybe, but the clash of two shows/character designs creates something new. After all, they all are fiction. I don't see a big crime there, copyright or so. It's not same as claiming the characters as your own. Just interpreting in different ways.

I'd call the art amusing, and I don't see why anyone would take it as a "challenge".
But to answer the question, no. Why should they? And what's audacious about crossover, mashed up fanfic? It's not audacious. It's not even unusual.
Audacious writers shock and challenge. They push the boundaries of what we allow ourselves to think; they force us to question our most fundamental assumptions and beliefs; they disturb and provoke. This sort of fanfic does none of those things.

Crossovers are fun, but if it's some kind of 'call to arms' to do it 'just because', I feel it loses a lot of its creativity and value. Especially with all of this excellent-quality crossover art here to base it off of. When it's something that's conceived and gestated in a person personally, due to an in-joke or original mashup idea (yes, it's an oxymoron, I know.) it can have a lot of life and appeal, due in part to the spontaneity of it, and inherent 'personalness' of it. But when it's a bunch of people struggling to do it on purpose, often with competitive undertones? The results of those kinds of efforts are usually too many at once, with not enough heart and strength/passion put into them. I feel it just creates a flood that results in a large number of people reading subpar material and the community ending up even more jaded about it. Especially with aforementioned 'excellent material' to base it off of.
Besides that, people are doing this kind of thing all over the place all the time in fanfiction, and there's already a stigma against it for being fanservicey and unimaginative.
So, basically, my opinion is... No, and also, they're already doing it. From my perspective at least, there really doesn't need to be a rally for this kind of thing.
I don't know if I made any sense because I'm writing this with a headache, but... I guess it's out there now, whatever condition it's in.

Deliberate mashups don't often work. I suggest simply using the concept as inspiration to make something better.
I think some people jump the gun and start when their own idea is germinating and not fully formed. Give it time and sleep on it for a week or more and see how it has developed.

I am not so sure. Some things are astonishing. Like the Hunger Games. Others like GoT-gone-comic are silly and just plain horrible. For the most part, this does not work for me. Probably because I am no comic fan and I NEVER liked Disney or Marvel. And twisting Snow White and Mickey Tarantino-wise may seem clever and unconventional at first, but it is turning me out.
But the thing is: creative people will draw and re-write anyway at least as long as it is not legally prohibited (as is the case for the vampire stories of Anne Rice, I think). Pick what you like and ignore the rest. Personally, I prefer new ideas (although there is nothing really new under the sun).

Yes, I absolutely think they should. Creativity should be encouraged and ideas should be criticized and supported at the same time. Creative artists and writers should absolutely take up the gauntlet to create alternative universe stories, and if they deem that their idea has a huge potential for further development, they should take it further.
To put into context, I'm going to refer to the creator of Penny Dreadful, John Logan. I have watched interviews with him on the creation of the TV series and from what I can gather, it is essentially a beautiful series of excellent cinematography portraying an alternate fan-made universe where Dr Frankenstein, his monster, vampires, Dorian Gray, werewolves and the spirit underworld of demons exist at the same time in the Victorian decades, and - here's the best part... how they interact with each other. This series has recently finished its 8-episode first season and highly anticipated for the next.
I believe that crossover fanfiction is a fantastic idea, but of course, we should never take it too far as to create a piece of work very close to the original and claim it as ours, or even create an alternate universe with the original characters and fully claim it as ours. Ultimately, yes they should, but they should also exercise courtesy and caution with it as well. Even when John Logan claimed this series as being his idea, it was always clear that the original was the work of literary legends like Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde.

What kind of question is this? So artists shouldn't have an imagination?
There have even been official mash-ups and crossovers like GI Joe/Transformers comics, Tsubasa Chronicle, Super Smash Bros, Justice League, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic & Sega AllStars Racing, Teen Titans, etc.
I may not care for some fan crossovers (Disney/Kill Bill, MLP/Transformers, etc) but all in all, I've seen some amazing crossover pieces from ALL types of shows. Basically, it's all about personal taste. I don't like Avatar anymore, but I've seen a picture of Korra portrayed as Pocahontas and it was BEAUTIFUL! I've seen Sailor Scout Kida that was amazing.
Let them enjoy their imaginative creations! You're not forced to like them.

There are a few things to note (coming from an writer)
-The people drawing these pictures may feel like the characters and the mix-up is 'theirs'.
-Alternate universes/ mash ups do exist, especially for things such as Sherlock or Doctor who.
-not many people write for disney characters, they have a younger audience and fanfiction is mostly aimed at teenagers. The audience and authors don't really overlap. And it is harder to find fans of two different fandoms who would enjoy the work being mixed up as such.
But go ahead, I mean, people (in my opinion) have taken the whole my little pony to extreme, so why not do that with more fandoms.
But I will throw this out for people throughout the comments who are disproving an idea meant to let authors explore more options: If you don't like it, then don't read it. Authors, like artists, have their own creative boundaries to push and explore.
But it is something I think more people should explore, and not just for the purpose of jumping on a bandwagon for fan service. I'm looking at you, MLP and Wholock.
