well I used watercolor, mostly blue and violet, to shadow the dark areas of his hair, since it's grey/white whatever I left the highlighted areas blank of color.
you should look through some watercoloring tutorials for more information, I'm a total newbie to watercolors myself and not the best one to ask about technique

haha, no no, yours is quite good dear^^, i have trouble controlling saturation of colours when i colour so i kinda get carried away... am a newbie too in watercolours actually, so am still experimenting and learning^^,
i really like the lovely contrast in your piece! and your background is superb. may i ask how you did that too^^,?i wonder how you did the white trail in the piece, as well as maintain the vibrant colour flow so they look so sharp and not mixed together? is it thru masking liquid? or some other unknown technique i haven't heard of yet *W*? (grin) i forgot to ask that day...ORZ;;;

the white lines are done with a white gel pen afterwards 
the colors, well I just did that the way I like to put color on paper, changed between colors as I saw fit

if it helps, I use a white Uni-ball Signo (it's made by Mitsubishi in Japan but I got it in normal shop)

Ich mag den Schwert am besten, die Gradierung sieht an ihm vertrauenswehrt. Und die Farben sind dir gut gelungen wenn man die Qualitat des Papier in Betracht zieht.
