Description What's this? SHADING?! Shock, horror, disbelief!

This is probably a sign that I ought to lay off re-reading my Girl Genius comics for a bit... but I'm on a major Studio Foglio kick right now (C'mon, I mean, they put both "What's New With Phil and Dixie" and "Buck Godot" online! I'm weak-willed!).

Inspired by this comic ([link] ), the panel with the shiny butterflies and the sepia tones. I just sort of... remembered it. I didn't even refernce the panel until the sketch was essentially done.

The lightning was done with a tablet (you may now shout "Hypocrite!" at me), then a glowy effect was added. To see what lightning looked like, I looked at this pic ([link] ).

The Victorian dress is actually a conglomerate of... oh, 3-5 dresses all of which can be seen in the RPG book for "Space:1889" which, along with Girl Genius, is about as Stempunky as you can get.

The background is supposed to be a sort of "brass goggles" look to it... Just those nice, warm, colors. I might do a Roger companion pic. We'll see.

Mistress Modena © Me

Edit: Forgot to mention, this shading was done with the dodge brush and smear thing, while the highlights were done with a tablet (to achieve varying opacity) and a smear brush. Enjoy.

Off the theme song of Clone High. Except it was 80's...and her dress reminds me of the 60's-50's era.

Oh, I see. To be fair, I did model Modena after the sterotypcial 50's villainess, so maybe that's where you see the connection...

Oh? I love 'Beauty and the Beast'...the song. It's so pretty. I loved the ballroom scene and the different/funny reactions that Beast (forgot his name. @_@) had. It was rather cute, I think.

I love the song, too... and the score is lovely and the scene is magical (I don't think we ever learn his name). I just prefer the score to Hunchback. But both are amazing...

Ahhhhh...Disney movies make me feel all fuzzy inside. Except those sequels now adays. >: ( Those are incredibly annoying. Like Cinderella 2 & 3. She was suppose to live happily ever after!!!

Yes, Disney knows how to do that... accurséd sequels... some are okay, but most are rather "meh."

Well, it destroys the kind of fairytale ending that Disney has been know to be able to portray. It's one of those fairytale-thing-that-makes-unrealistic-things-come-true saga....series...thing. (Hope that made some sense.) *sigh* It's like Disney's trying to bank off their previous success and in doing so their deteriorating the greatness and popularity of the movies by over-using and creating constant sequels to movies that were suppose to be finished after the first one.

Like, Cinderella III. Come on!!! She's still facing some of the same problems she did in the first movie!!! At the end of the first movie I distinctly remember seeing a 'The End'. When things say that it usually means that it's over. I just don't see the point of Cinderella anymore. She worked so hard all her life and then one day her prince comes and whisks her away from her troubles where they lived happily ever after. But, now...all her problems stalk her and crap. It ruins the innocence and sweetness that the movie was able to generate. Plus, the message towards the kids aren't helpful either. 'OOO!! Working hard earns you a slight vacation but in the end your vacation'll get ruined by all these problems that will make you wanna cry.' I don't think that's cool. Children should be hopeful that one day...after working so hard...they will reap their winnings. Not have a bunch of trouble and such follow and plague you.

I seriously hope that made sense.

Don't get me wrong, I despise Disney's greed and remarketing. But occasionally they do produce a sequal that's watchable (Extremely Goofy Movie, Toy Story 2, and Lion King 2 come to mind, but that's it...). It is rather descipable...

Cinderella III does seem rather too much, but I *cough* think that it might be interesting, only because I like time travel. But other than that, yeah, it's not a good thing... I don't know, it's depressing to see the shameless sequal making. Ugh, really ugh.

That made sense.

jc25813 In reply to Teela-B [2007-02-11 00:16:56 +0000 UTC]

Lion King 2 was good. Toy Story 2 wasn't my favorite remake...it was like they recycled Woody. -_- But, I mean...going to the trouble of making two more sequels to the first hit...just doesn't seem right to me.

Time travel is good if it was the point of the movie but Cinderella was a cute story and I loved the first one. It's like Disney can't think of anymore romantic movies. -_- They better not make a sequel to 'Beauty and The Beast'. I just watched it today and I fell in love with the movie all over again. Escpecially after Beast was injured and dying because at that moment Belle falls onto his chest and says to him that she loves him. *insert sighing here* It was just...a hopeless romantic's dream.

Phew. Just checking. ^^

Yeah, sometimes you have to wonder about the writer's sanity.

Either way. The only way I'll watch it is if my aunt buys it for her little kids. I watched "Beauty and the Beast" the other day, too! At the end, I was just awe-struck. I had forgotten much of its beauty...

No kidding.

*gasps* I was awestruck too...it was so...well...romantic. And, yeah...they never mentioned his real name. The way Belle and Beast acted were amazing. I still love the ending scene when he changes!!! So adorable.

I know, I like how he's nameless. I don't know why. The scene where he changes is just amazing to me... man, I love that film.

jc25813 In reply to Teela-B [2007-02-12 06:56:58 +0000 UTC]

Actually...I just watched the part where Belle declares her love...again. Umm...*nervous cough* Yeah...

ANYWAYS!!! When Beast is debating about throwing Gaston off the edge Belle shouts out 'BEAST'! So, I suppose that he was always known that to her.

The kind of lovey dovey part is after Beast has changed and she looks into his eyes and realizes that it really is him. Just a really smushy part. Totally loved every second. I rewinded it a couple of times to see that. Guilty as charged.

By far, my favorite Disney movie. It ties first place with 'Alice in Wonderland'. That movie is such an acid trip.

Yay! Yes, that's a cool part... I know, I can be so mushy like that... I loved that part...

My favorite Disney film is... ooh, tough choice. I adore Lilo and Stich... but if you count Pixar/Disney, then "The Incredibles" hands down, I think. I can't really choose...

I loved 'The Incredibles' but the movie that made me laugh and go "aww" was "Finding Nemo". Both great movies!!!
