OMFG it's Sir Grodus . . . in the flesh! At least this is how I picture him with his face exposed. I suppose you could call this a bust, but I am not sure. It is a combination between a bust and a portrait. I don't know why, but I like how this turned out. I really do! I made him look like a BAMF!!

The Story behind the art:

Well, I wasn't really sure what I was going to do when I started this artwork. No one has ever seen Grodus' face, but I figured there was something under the cloak. I figured because he was an alien(all the X-Nauts are for that matter) he would have to look like one. He can't look like anything from Mario's world because he is from another.

I sat down, and went into this thing pretty much blind. I didn't use much reference except some alien nose ref. As for Grodus himself it was a blind run. I wasn't sure how to make him look . . . weather to have his ears prominent or not was a huge issue. Another issue I had was with the face symmetry. I was also struggling with the idea of putting the goggles on in the end, so I just added them in, but almost like a ghost of them. I wanted the full structure of his face shown, so I made the goggles somewhat transparent.

The biggest snag I ran into was actually deciding weather to color it or not. I loved the sketch alone so much that it was a huge decision. In the end I am very glad I did color this. Very, very glad! I am glad mostly because I am able to show the color of his skin, and his eyes. Yeah I know he has the same color skin as a freaking Na'vi . . . who gives a crap because he isn't a freaking Na'vi!!

Any way, I hope you enjoy this art as much as I enjoyed doing it.
