Description 11 x 14 color pencil !00% coverage with a little Pitt and micron pens and various grey copics to help out.

This is the character in which I took my name early on. He is one of many many characters in my proposed Ark Worlds series and the one I suppose I would most like to be in a fantasy life. Anthropomorphic siberian tiger starship pilot.

"Ark Worlds"
It was the missing link, and when the human world was discovered, it was hoped that the reason for the creation of the Confederated Worlds and their respective dominant species, would be at last answered. But still more questions arose instead. And although the humans were definitely the genetic template in which all known sentient beings were based, and their planet, the only naturally occurring world now in the confederation, was the one in which all others were patterned, it was determined that they were not the creators. They also lacked the technical knowledge and capabilities to perform the genetic engineering involved, let alone the ability to create entire planets along with detailed functioning ecosystems. In fact, human technology was quite primitive, having just barely reached the stage where they were able to explore beyond their own planetary boundary.

But in the end, Earth was reluctantly invited to join the confederation. This was partially due to the fact they now had in their possession, a starship, wrecked but still technically informative, and would no doubt be able to construct their own in short order, and no one wanted a loose cannon out there on the fringe. And besides, although the humans had little to offer in the way of raw materials or technology, they had reached a degree considerably higher than any other race in their development and sophistication of certain vices…

“Ark Worlds” series. Outlined though it may never have time to write it. I do have spinoff short stories in the works though.

All kitties love cream...
Mmmmm! Bailey's Irish Cream on the rocks and a good cigar. Can't get better than that!

I'll be picking at this for a couple days more and critique and suggestions are very welcome as always.

When you said vices, there was only a few I could think of: Drugs, Alcohol, and Sex...

I was talking about the more cultured and refined vices like fine alcohol and liqueurs, in which the manufacture become an art form, and tobacco, (not cigarettes but fine cigars and pipe tobacco.)
He is pictured with a bottle of Baileys and  fine Cuban cigar.   Gambling may also be included as we have taken that vice to great lengths, and surely some human will open a gambling casino on one of the more accepting worlds.

Wow, the premise of your "Ark Worlds" series reminds me a lot of my upcoming comic series "Solaria" which also deals with genetic engineering and anthropomorphic animals, although it's much more lighthearted and "cartoony" than your series, a lot of the same ideas are present and accounted for.

FINALLY it's nice to read something that doesn't just berate the human race through and through. I mean seriously if the human race was as shitty as those "sci-fy" movies depict us we wouldn't even lived this long or advanced this far!

However it was only one sentence that complemented the human race but hey it's a start and at least the sentence gives an impression that the human race could have a strength in multiple areas or "vices" as you call it.

As for your picture what captures my attention is how well you did the fur on the anthropomorphic tiger. (Teiirka I believe?) As well as the furniture he's laying upon is really well done too, excellent work on the details and shading.

Finally: An anthropomorphic animal that is a star pilot? STARFOX!

Very well done. I love planetscapes outside hull ports. Good job on fingers and pose. Very relaxed yet regal. I'm interested in seeing more of your interior design and the continuation of the story. Is the Siberian tiger from Earth or one of the alien races? I wasn't sure because Earth was the template, not the origin. Thanks.

teiirka In reply to Tygepc [2014-10-28 03:58:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. As far as the story goes, there are dozens of engineered planets, all replicas of Earth and all within the same small sector of the galaxy. None developed their own interstellar drive systems but most posses it as the tech was offered to all by an unidentified race. All the planets are part of the confederation and trade amongst one another. Most also understand and accept that they were genetically engineered using an unidentified species (human of course) as their base genetic code, especially after seeing their own base feral species on other worlds. They also realize their civilization levels had also been manipulated to maintain fairly equal tech levels. All this is pretty much assumed to be attributed to the aliens that introduced the interstellar drive systems, (wormhole technology). The limited views of these aliens though, made the confederated peoples conclude that they were not the base genetics as they appeared too different.
Then humans and the "natural" Terra was discovered in a far corner of the sector. This led to more questions than answers as they were rather primitive and had tech enough to barely explore their own solar system.

Yeah, so all the species in the story originated on the natural Terra. But  is it the original Terra?

Tygepc In reply to teiirka [2015-01-04 22:33:06 +0000 UTC]

Interesting questions raised. If all the species were artificially made equal in technology, why not humans? What also didn't the other races compare notes about the unidentified races. It shouldn't be hard to see manipulation on that scale (like seeing the negative space and knowing something had been there.)

Also, why Terra?

I guess, I'm getting ahead of myself and should wait for you to answer these questions in your story. Looking forward to reading it. Good luck.

There was nothing to spare them from really, they just weren't ignored. When import/companies visited to assess trade potential, it was discovered that Earth had a greater variety of liquor by far than any confederated planet and tobacco products had also been refined to a much higher level with cigars especially, becoming highly sought after by certain species.
Curiously, Earths internal combustion powered vehicles quickly became a popular diversion for the upperclass of many of the worlds with Harley motorcycles and sports cars of various makes being the most sought after.

What about weapons? I'm assuming that the other species have energy-based weapons but I've also noticed that most of them don't wear armor. So it really wouldn't matter if someone were firing bullets or lasers at them; either one will kill just as well as the other.

teiirka In reply to WhIppIng-b0y [2014-04-02 11:59:45 +0000 UTC]

Unless it was vacuum suit  or battle armor or protection from some extreme environment, why would a well furred sentient being want to wear anything besides something for modesty? Or on occasion, something decorative but still sparse?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

WhIppIng-b0y In reply to teiirka [2014-04-02 19:59:34 +0000 UTC]

Shorts? Shorts can be decorative and sparse. What I was getting at was that he was wearing something that seemed very outdated for his suggested sophistication, but I guess that just boils down to opinions.

teiirka In reply to WhIppIng-b0y [2014-04-03 02:35:29 +0000 UTC]

You're looking at it from a human standpoint only. Here in our human world, a loin cloth is perceived as primitive in most cultures. On alien worlds, "shorts" may be considered primitive or old hat and the loin cloth viewed modern and stylish. It's not opinion, it's imagination.

looks wonderful.
also looks like something i wish i could do: kicking back and relaxing with a good cigar and a stiff drink. I'd take a nice 12-18 year-old scotch over the Bailey's (or better yet, a nice 3+ year-old bottle of home-brewed mead) but you're right about kitties loving cream, so good choice.

two things on the story:
There's a theory that's been bouncing around for a few decades (at least) that "God" was actually an alien scientist. variations include: the various pagan pantheons being similar, and in some cases siblings or members of the same expedition; the garden of Eden being one of several similar genetic experimentation labs; humans originating on Venus and fleeing the same destruction they're causing here on earth; and of course the alien-centric beliefs of the Mormon and Scientology religions. Additionally, it sounds similar to the fluff story(s) Blizzard came up with for the Zerg and Protoss races and their connection to each other and humanity for their Starcraft franchise.
Just a few things to check out as possible inspiration.
