The amount of time and effort you put into Reina, her backstory AND also all of her cybernetic implants is astounding!
I love of the art and material of Novus Imperium! I spent a lot of time just admiring and gazing at it. Your art style is realistically detailed but still retains some of it's "hand-drawn" aesthetic.
Superb Work!

This is fantastic and has a million opportunities for stories. I love the detailed description of basically making people living weapons. I am eating this up. Is there a plan for story telling in this universe? Literature? Animation? Etc? Do you have specs or illustrations for Gray and Phoebe?

I have bits and pieces of stories worked out, but at present I haven't figured out how to best put them together, or for that matter what medium would be best for presenting them (thankfully a writer friend has volunteered to help me out with this).
As for Gray and Phoebe, they show up with some regularity in my annual NI sketchdumps, but there are only a few individual works depicting them:

Are they specialized at all or do they all come with the uniform modifications? Are there other units? 1-6?

With the exception of the utility modules on the backs of the arms, the cybernetics are standard across all of the KAIROS. I haven't decided on the exact number of KAIROS yet, but I've narrowed it down to 30 (10 cells), 60 (20 cells), or 90 (30 cells).

Very Cool! What are some of the options for the utility modules? If i am asking too many questions please just let me know.

Questions are no problem; it forces me to get some of this stuff down in writing. At present, the only utility modules I've come up with are the retractable blade and compact magnetic accelerator mentioned in the art description.

I hear you! I get more cemented worldbuilding done out of people's questions than out of my own work. Which makes me wonder, the main world I build is through a Actual Play Podcast (welcometowarda.com/ if you are interested) But the way we keep in touch with all of this world creation with our fans is through discord. Do you have a discord set up for this world for fans to ask questions and such?

I've got an art server on Discord, but currently I just use it for bouncing ideas off of a few friends and letting them see what I'm working on. At present I don't think I could handle the responsibility of managing it as a more open discussion group. Once I get my life a bit more ordered however, I'm considering opening it up to more people.

Reina has gone through so many iterations but each one brings us closer to "Perfect Reina".
I see you darkened both her hair and skin tone even further (I did like the lighter hair color better)
This previous iteration from last year was pretty good though:
tekka-croe.deviantart.com/art/…
Her hairdo is believable and less manga-anime-ish. It's practical and inline with her work but retains a strong feminine style (which I find sexy as hell!!!).
Oh wait! [facepalm] You LOK-ed her didn't you?! Well her tan is still original and congruent to the character but it feels like you drew a lot from Korra. Well played sir, well played.
The feet seem odd to me. Although, the description sheet justifies the curving of the toes as well, so with that I can't complain.

The darker tone of her skin is more a result of my having developed a better grasp of color selection than I had a couple years ago. I used to treat the white of the page as the "starting point" when selecting color (a habit I developed from having worked with markers before getting into digital coloring).
As a result, the colors all tended to be lighter than what I was trying to convey. If you look at an earlier illustration of her next to someone who's supposed to have a lighter skintone:
tekka-croe.deviantart.com/art/…
Trent looks like some kind of vampire in that illustration, due to the lighter color selection.
Since then, I've started treating a neutral gray as my starting point with digital coloring, and the level of both color and tone saturation in my work has increased as a result.
The darker coloration of her hair is simply to retain the level of contrast between her skin and hair tone.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that you were talking about Legend of Korra (Which I could've figured out sooner, if I'd kept reading instead of getting hung up on the abbreviation).
I've actually not watched it yet, but everyone I know keeps telling me that I should. I ought to make a goal of getting to it before the end of the year. From the artwork I've seen, though, it looks like it's got excellent art direction.

Ooh! My apologies. I shouldn't have assumed everyone has seen the series to immediately start using acronyms. But this show is definitely worth watching. I certainly enjoyed it.
With Reina and Korra having an athletic build the change in hair and skin color tone really hit me. There was no negative remark intended in my initial comment. I really enjoy both these characters and the respective worlds they live in.
Now I understand what gave way to all these variations in rendering.
Hope to see more artwork for NI(Novus Imperium) lol
When will we finally get a chance to experience a complete story in the NI universe?
Keep at it!

Very nice, her current design seems like she'd be much lighter on her feet compared to the earlier version. I especially like the boot design, was that completely your design or inspired by something else?
👍: 1 ⏩: 1
Tekka-Croe In reply to AMichelJ [2015-10-13 15:59:19 +0000 UTC]
Adding "toes" to the boots was initially inspired by Mirror's Edge. Otherwise, the current design simply evolved out of the old one. While the difference is immediately visible in a side-by-side comparison, the transition from one design to the other was a gradual process.
A couple of illustartions from the last couple years show transitional versions:
