Another bit of Gazing Starlight cosmology.

The Earth itself is a living creature, being the core of the Boltzmann brains oneiric aspect. The ebbs and flow of the sea are the result of the planets whale-like breathing; kilometer wide circular orifices on the bottom of the great oceans regularly opens and inhale water during ebb, and exhale water and then closing during flow. Philosophers believe that the reason Earth inhales water is because it uses water to soak up celestial energy from the stars, basically some sort of geological photosynthesis.
