The colors look really good. Like Eldanis said, though, I think the shadows should have some color to them. Also, I'm a little confused by the light coming in the window. Wouldn't the shadows vast by the blinds be darker than they are? I bet it's one of those things where the shadows really looked that light to you, but for me looking at the painting, they seem too light.

My cunning plan has worked! It's a scene made up from my head, pretty much, so the fact that the light is in any way accurate at *all* is pretty much a miracle. I blathered on for longer about that in reply to *Eldanis , so I won't here.

The kitty! She's so cute. ^^ I really love the painterly quality - it really looks like real *paint*. What medium did you use in Painter?
As far as crits go, all I can offer is that it would be nice if the shadows had some color in them, instead of just being black. Even if it's a matter of inventing it (because the shadows probably really did look black), stuff like that usually helps a painting, and it's handy to know that *in general*, warm light = cool shadows, and vice-versa. But that's me being really picky, and is something I need to put into practice more myself.

Muahaha, my eeevil plan has succeeded! It's a scene made up from my head and snapshots of my cat and a window (after dark, and with flash, so COMPLETELY the wrong light!), and a photo of a red pear from morguefile.com used for reference. XD So I had to make up the lighting entirely, and it wasn't until I looked at the cat in the sunshine this morning that I realized the shadows on the table ought to have been as dark as those of the cat and pear.
It's pretty much a mockup of something I eventually want to paint a bit more realistically, but I'm trying to work out the composition and colors and what else ought to be or not to be in the picture. (I really don't like the window, but haven't yet figured out what to put there - it should be simple, since the focus is the comparison of the cat and pear.)

Haha, I don't know how I didn't notice before! That cat and pear really do have the same shape. X3 I really like the idea of painting them together in a still life, though. Maybe instead of a window with blinds you could paint curtains? Those are a bit more pleasing to the eye, but depending on their placement might also break up the composition...
