it looks like the icons the Christians have in their churches. they represt saints and they usually hold a cross, a book or something with spiritual meaning... so in the future the tomatos will be spiritual !! (just kidding!)

What I notice. One of the tomatoes is placed over the heart. But it looks whole as does the other one with the fork in it. But the one she is looking at, the one that has captivated her, is one that is open. The one that has been cleanly sliced with a knife. Relgious connotations for sure. I would be interested in what it really does all mean.

the work is superb: but 2 things I am really dying for: the tomato on the fork: and the icon style

The orange thick ring around your head represents both the imagination and knowledge.
You have infinite power over objects so that you don't need to touch things to interact with it.
well, thats just my wild guessing i guess.

very thoughtful pic.. AMAZING!

Not one to really analyse artwork... I prefer to just look and enjoy. As always, beautiful work. The yellow of the halo is gorgeous against the almost olive background.

This really piques the intrest of many of friends all whom have said the same thing.. Great piccy.. Its really got that renisancey feel to it. But at the same time a really great modern era feel to it. Love the background!

My feelings about the meaning were already covered by those before me. Aside from the wonderful symbolism, I like the greenish tint you have given her. Is there any significance to the fact that you extended the light ..wash areas I guess.. of the background over her right arm? Also, each tomato seems to be on a different layer. As you go from the tomato over her heart, to the smallest one in the topmost area, the transparency increases. I am not sure if it's part of the symbolism but I like it.

Nice texture all over. I like the traditional look with the new digital effects.

I am seeing a person being forced to eat nothing but vegies to stay thin, to stay in the trend, as the person's innocent (the haylo) being broken apart as they are not so pure anymore. Being mind controlled by others, unable to think for themselves.

A biblical reference?...Is it Mary or Eve? She is looking at the tomatoes with a hidden lust so I thought it might be Eve...the tomatoe stands for the apple maybe...it's funny, but the Viennese word for tomatoe is "Paradeiser"..."Paradies" means paradise...(no spelling mistake!)...so I immediately thought that the tomatoe in this piece could stand for the forbidden fruit...oh, I'm rambling...

wow, this is so beautiful, it makes me think about lots of things, the crack in the halo makes me think this person is split about something, and cant decide, dont know what, but i probably has something to do with the tomatoes.. dont knwo... But they are an excellent way of combining a classic iconstyle portrait with a modernistic feel to it.. good job!!

wonderful work. I had no Idea what the meaning was until I read the comments. I was really trying to figure it out but resorted to others feelings. beautiful immage. and your poetry site is awsome! I have to tell you to us americans to see such a beautiful language combined with your awsome manipulations is breathtaking.. Even though and partially because I cannot read it.

Ahh, how sedating. I was helping a friend move and came across some ikons of his, he used to be greek orthodox. You know, I am going to fav this, but the blatant PS brush on the bottom of her shirt really bugs me. It looks thrown on and out of place.

Dont get me wrong, this is the reason why I hang around on DA, in order to see things like this. I love the halo and basically the way you made it look old and worn.

But damn that brushstroke....

ndifference [2003-04-05 01:56:16 +0000 UTC]

Someone must have gotten it right by now. At least they've all covered my interpretation of it. Except the halo looks like an odd-colored avacado half. That's the shape of one, anyway.

This is the best piece of work I've seen all week. If I was an art history student I would ramble about this painting for an hour. Instead, I'll stop rambling and just say Bravo!!

this looks fantastic Liva! and the detail is splendid, splendid !
funny because i heard something about tomatoes this morning on the radio . they were saying that the latin word for "tomato" meant "wolf from persia" . hmm because a long time ago people thought it was a dangerous fruit
so i take this painting as an illustration of this , hehe
great work again Liva

I'm sure there's nothing I can say that you haven't heard before, but this is truely a beautiful piece of work. When I first saw it I would've never thought it was a digital painting, and because it is digital impresses me even more. You were born to do this and this is proof.
