Description The Commodore has no patience for this bullshit.

This was one of the rare times that my drawing actually reflected my emotional state at the time I drew it. Nothing major, just general irritation with my day job. Therapy!

Pencil and PS. Texture by `Princess-of-Shadows .

Indeed it is on occasion. It's not something I do too often, but this time it was REALLY helpful. I'm glad you like it!

I LOVE emotionally inspired art (lol mine is all so emo and angry that I don't ever upload it ;A; ) and I love seeing this side of Farael . That pose is just AWESOME, like he's going to pounce *V*

MMMPH YESSSS... I love Farael when he's being all fiery and asskicking. I'm really glad you like the pose! More "action-y" stuff (not that this is exactly an action pose, but you know...) is usually pretty hard for me, so YAY! Thanks a lot for the fave.

really, this is great work my dear. Whenever you put emotion into your work, it really makes it pop you know? out of all of this, i have to say his face and the curve of his body are my favorite. You made him appear so powerful, especially with the spacing of his arms? oh yeah, he looks like hes gonna flip someone.

Lovely work m'dear <3

Oh, thanks so much!! Yeah, I figured it was about time I drew Farael looking like he's about to kick some serious ass. He can't be perfectly placid ALL the time, after all! I really do hope to do a Farael-in-action picture sometime soon, because he's got a really badass lightning sword that I rarely ever draw and which would look AWESOME in picture form...

tell me about it O_O my eyebrows raised and everything when I read it!

Its always fun to draw something a little out of what you are used to, and in your case, gawd. You can draw some awesome rage m'dear

temiel In reply to Suupashi [2010-01-24 15:20:17 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thank you!! I've always thought I wasn't too good at real RAGE, you know? It's a hard emotion to convey without making your people look really ugly and cartoony. :3

Also, as a side note, it's good to see you back! Have you been taking a dA break?

Suupashi In reply to temiel [2010-01-24 15:43:34 +0000 UTC]

Yes actually, I've been staying away mostly because i got a nasty compy virus that decided to eat all my PSD files @_@ So all the stuff i was working on decided to up and kick the bucket. Also I think my styles changing a bit @_@, so i've been messing with that more then commenting or talking ^^() but now i am bawk.

Yeah, rage is ONE of those emotions thats very hard to get down. its because of those subtle changes in the face that end up taking place. Its very hard to capture without emphasizing it and making it seem.. over the top?

temiel In reply to Suupashi [2010-01-24 15:48:02 +0000 UTC]

ARGH NO!! I'm sorry, man, that's AWFUL. If I lost all my PSDs, I'd LOSE MY MIND. I'm glad you've been able to use it as an excuse to mess around with a new style, though. Still... ARGH!!

Oh i came very very close to losing my mind @_@ I had what... oh... last count at upwards of... perhaps its best if i don't think about it @_@

thats why its a good idea to back EVERYTHING up. at regular intervals.

I really like the movement this picture has thanks to the sketch lines that you left in there. The wrinkles in his shirt~~~ <.< It's starting to sound like I have a real thing for wrinkles in clothes. lol who knew.
Great work on his facial expression, the bright orange eye really helps bring my attention right there. n.n
Letting it out artistically really is the best way to let go of steam.

temiel In reply to Makio-Kuta [2010-01-24 12:30:01 +0000 UTC]

C: Oh wrinkles. Fear not, I love them too! (It's why I draw so damn many... XD) I'm glad you like it!!

Therapeutically speaking, I'm almost never one to "get the emotions out on paper"; normally I use art to distract myself if I'm feeling less-than-awesome, but occasionally you just can't beat a good drawn rant. When I was in college I did a TON of little ranty comics about how much I hated my classes... XD Some of those were really kind of fun, actually.

Hmm. I like the shadowy effect of his wings. I can kind of imagine them going upwards and then forwards in a wing-movement translation of irritation (or maybe dominance )

Conversely to usual, in this one, I very much like the lines The sheer amount of them doesn't seem out of place, but lend him a stronger movement, so the whole picture seems sort of tensed and energetic.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

temiel In reply to Alois-Noette [2010-01-23 02:54:05 +0000 UTC]

I LOVE imagining the involuntary movements his wings make when he's agitated.

...Yeeaaaaaaah, I think too much about this.

Glad you like the lines! I'm not usually this loose about them, but I was feeling grouchy and careless. :giggle

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Alois-Noette In reply to temiel [2010-01-23 03:01:57 +0000 UTC]

But they're good grouchy-and-careless lines!

And...it's odd, but that sort of imagining is weirdly automatic. Like imagining things as movies. I had an involuntary, 'Whooooa, his wings will move that way!'

My favorite part has gotta be that lighting and those colors! Really cool! And of course, the gestural, sketchy quality of the lines is great at evoking that emotion and movement~ Haha, gotta love angry Farael. xD lol

I'm really surprised by how well this one's going over, I just sketched it all crappy in, like, 15 minutes on my lunch break yesterday! I'm really glad you like it, though. I think the painting practices I've been doing have really been helping me with my lighting!

Thank you! I was saying to someone earlier that normally when I'm upset or mad I draw something lovey or sexy and it makes me feel better, but this one just needed to be what it was. And it definitely did help.

I've gotten to the point where I just kind of do it compulsively, mood or not! I used to need to know what to draw before I started, but now it's like reflexive hand movement.

I used to do that all the time - draw according to my mood. I think I'm going back to that these days... It really is therapy ♥
I love this, though. His eyes...just wow. Amazing work :]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

temiel In reply to neriahnee [2010-01-22 12:29:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thanks! Yeah, I almost NEVER do it... honestly, there's very little connection between my mental state and what I want to draw most of the time. Usually if I'm feeling down or grumpy I draw something sexy and it makes me feel better, I almost never have my characters commiserate with me. This time, though... I think I needed it. Glad you like it! I was really pleased with the eyes.

Gngnhn angry Farael <3 This looks great, and I agree that the quick sketch lines really, really work with this. It almost adds to the aggession and the quick urgency, certainly gives his clothes a lot of movement, too. I wouldn't like to be on the other end of this, that's for sure!

HRNNRRRRN YESS. I sketched this when I was pissed off on my lunch break but finished it with you in mind when I got home. I'm so glad you like it... I figured it was about time I drew him REALLY mad, because he certainly can't be Perfectly Composed and Contained aaaaaall the time.

Thats how I felt when I had to go out looking for a job. It sucked. I love this, not a lot of art but, it explains the mood of the picture perfectly just by the look on his face! <3

temiel In reply to TheDevilsBlush [2010-01-22 13:49:21 +0000 UTC]

AUGH THANK YOU! Yeah, job hunting really sucks the big one. I just did this because I'm so bored and frustrated with my day job, it needed to come out somehow. When I drew this in my sketchbook I actually had a little speech thing with "The Commodore has no patience for this bullshit." I ended up PSing it out because it was messing up the composition, but it's still there in the sketch.

TCShelton [2010-01-22 07:33:52 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I kinda love the style of this! The sketchy lines, the rough hard brush strokes, the almost totally muted colors. Definitely the sort of thing I often find myself drawn too. And I love the sort of abstract background his wings make. They almost make this sort of dark cloud shape which really helps to heighten and exaggerate the mood of the piece. I rather likes. I think in the past the Commodore has always been a bit reserved and passive for my own personal tastes. I'm liking him a lot like this, though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

temiel In reply to TCShelton [2010-01-22 13:39:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thanks! I didn't even think I was going to do anything with this beyond keep it in my sketchbook, but after I looked at it I thought "Man, I actually kind of like this stupid little thing!"

And yes... Farael is not the type to wear his heart on his sleeve. Like, EVER. But every now and again you can tell he's actually a seething cauldron of emotion under that rational, carefully controlled exterior. Because repression is HOT.
