Description Has anyone out there lost hours, or even days, to the addictive hellhole of TVTropes trying to figure out how to classify your characters or storyline? J/k, ilu TVTropes. If so, THERE IS NOW A MEME. Good lord, I lost an entire day assembling this nonsense. There are just so many... and all my characters fit so many... I did one for Astral Arcana too! But for now, the Vampire guys!

So here's the Strange Aeons cast. For sanity reasons, I had to keep it to just the four major vampires (since adding the humans would fling me swiftly off the deep end). There are a couple tropes that cover all four characters: they're all Friendly Neighborhood Vampires , and they're all upholding a Masquerade as per the context of their setting . And, of course, all males are Estrogen Brigade Bait . But that should be no surprise.

Let's break it down!

Claris
Shrinking Violet Claris is basically made out of this, although she's sloooowly getting over it.
I Just Want to Have Friends (Type B) She's also exquisitely lonely and deeply insecure. Pretty much all the time. Her reason for having so many girls on hand is basically so she doesn't have to be by herself.
Replacement Goldfish To Leland, she was originally one of these, for his long-dead wife Brenna. Of course, she eventually became his Second Love .
Mama Bear After founding the Order of the Holy Chalice, she became one of these to pretty much all the people living there, to say nothing of Blanche, whom she's been treating as a "daughter" for centuries.
Minored in Asskicking As a Brujah, she's surprisingly decent at being a badass. Although she's EXTREMELY noncombative as a rule, when absolutely necessary (see above Mama Bear tendencies, or when her Berserk Button gets pushed) she can tear shit up with the best of 'em.

Leland
Byronic Hero Of the more benign variety. Not a "bad boy" per se, but definitely a murderer on a very large scale over a very long time, an iconoclast, a brooding guilt-ridden intellectual, and also a big hypocrite. Lots of problems there. And yet I still love him oh god what's wrong with me
Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunet Of the male variety. I classified him as this but not Simon because Leland is... really rather creepier than Simon, physically speaking, in spite of his insane amount of charisma.
Cultured Bad Ass Could literally rip off your head and tear out your spine, but prefers to transcribe books and have conversations about science and the arts in his spare time.
Living Emotional Crutch Living in a manner of speaking, I guess. He was definitely this for Claris. In many ways, she was one for him too, but not to the same extent.
I Love You, Vampire Son Or vampire daughter, anyway. This should come as no surprise. Much mutual love there. In spite of feeling massively betrayed by him, Claris has still not gone full-on inversion in this regard.

Simon
Good Shepherd Simon is ABSOLUTELY this, or at least he was while he was alive. Even though he can't be a practicing clergyman anymore, he's still very deeply religious.
What Have I Become? Classic good-boy-becomes-a-monster angst. It took him several decades to come to peace with his new "life", to the extent that Claris worried he might have turned a little "off" in the Embracing process.
Turbulent Priest Back in the day, as a Huguenot opposing Catholic authority and ending up martyred for it. In a manner of speaking.
Took a Level in Badass After getting the crap beaten out of him too many times, he decided to do this. He now goes around armed all the time and started honing his awesome vampiric supernatural strength. It's pretty hot.
Mission From God Always on this, in a way. Even as an inhuman creature, he still seeks ways to do God's work. Whether this means charity or killing bad people is flexible.

Gregory
Nice Guy Because when you come down to it, Gregory is just a really... nice... guy.
The Dandy And also a bit of this. He's very cutting-edge and upscale with his fashion choices, definitely enough that this trope fits.
Actual Pacifist Let's just say he was rudely awakened upon his Embrace, since his sire hadn't exactly given him the full terms of the agreement beforehand. He tried to go vegetarian in the beginning, but failed terribly and got too hungry, much to his great regret. Since then, he switched over to a people-based diet, but takes great pains not to kill or hurt anyone.
Bi the Way Female? Male? Whatevs. It's all good.
Like Brother and Sister With Claris. So yeah, they're totally never going to hook up, sorry. She was just far too smitten with Leland when they met. They've got a very solid, adorable friendship, though, which extended to him becoming Simon's Big Brother Mentor while Claris failed terribly at being a sire.

Yeah, although I'm not too happy about there being two different tropes for pale/white/fair/light skin and dark/black hair. The original now implies that someone who has pale skin and black hair is "eerie" and the one where someone is beautiful for having pale skin and black hair doesn't allow real life examples!>_<
I think they should just delete the one for beautiful pale skin and black hair, rename the first one to a title that can cover a more broader range of characters who have black hair and pale skin(Like the original "Pale Skinned Brunette" title, or something like "Fair/Light/White/ Skinned Brunette/Ravenhead"), and give them different types like they do for the trope "Tsundere". For example: Type 1/A could be for pale skinned brunettes who are creepy/spooky/evil/villainous, Type 2/B could be for beautiful pale skinned brunettes, and then Types 3,4,5/C,D,E etc. could be for types like pale skinned brunettes who are normal, pale skinned brunettes who are nerdy, pale skinned brunettes who are simply unusual in character, etc.

Oh my gosh: losing hours on TV Tropes is pretty much what my weekends end up being made up of. I think, 'I'll just look up this one thing' & then I get lost in the link for 3+ hours

Awesooomeeee!! I love how Claris's tropes are apparently so mismatched and different from each other (I've come to think that the more different the tropes are, the more developed and less typical the character is, so it's a compliment ;D). All the others are this too, but none to such a degree as Claris. So nice discovering her Mama Bear and Chrouching Scholar Hidden Badass tendencies!
And Leland really IS a Byronic Hero... I dunno HOW I hadn't noticed, but even this pic alone suggests it.

And thanks to you I've discovered some new tropes yay! 8D (...or not D8)

YEAAAAAH I'm so excited to see yours, gwee. And THANK YOU, omg!! I actually kind of agree about the mismatched tropes. People in real life are full of contradiction and inconsistency. I think Alan is VERY frustrated with Claris simply because she IS like that, and therefore (he says) it's hard to motivate her. It's not hard, you just have to threaten the few people she actually cares about.

The thing about Claris and combat is that she really doesn't like to do it, and will pretty much avoid it at all costs even to the point of folly. However, if you say or do just the wrong thing, she will END YOU, and will chase you down until she's satisfied you're quite dead. She has an extremely high tolerance for being personally insulted or denigrated, but god forbid you mention Leland in a negative light, even after all the nonsense between them and being his replacement goldfish.

Speaking of Leland, I ALMOST put him as a Stepford Smiler, but I found so many others I liked for him. WHY MUST I RESTRICT IT TO FIVE?!

AHHHH I know, right? Monster angst can get SO old, and yet when he does it it's charming. He's easier to deal with now that he's sort of made peace with the whole thing and now just goes around kicking ass for God. Although I do have to hand it to him: wouldn't you have kind of a shellshocked angsty time of it if you'd just gone through the massively traumatic experience of getting fatally speared through the stomach and were sure you were totally going to bite it, and the next evening you woke up in a weird underground windowless room which was DEFINITELY not heaven and discovered that your heart wasn't beating anymore? Because of this, I can forgive him.

It will EAT YOUR LIFE, I strongly advise against it! Seriously, this took HOURS and HOURS to do, and once you start you won't want to stop until you're done. That being said, I'm glad I did it, for some reason, even if nobody else cares. Which they probably don't.
