I was really hoping Shadow wouldn't just be the asshole bully character who gets his comeuppance and is forgotten later on. I'm glad to see he has a remorseful side and a hinting to a deeper history with Nes. It's actually refreshing to see a character played out like you have so far. Great job

Hmm... this page answers a lot... and brings up even *more* questions.Β
So one of my guesses was right, that the panther, Shadow, was only trash-talking for show. He's not as big a jerk as the previous pages showed him as... but then...
"I guess your coach didn't pass along my message..."
So wait... the coach knew already that Shadow wanted Nes to know that any trash-talk wasn't going to be personal? Why didn't he tell Nes? Did he forget? That's possible, considering that this is Nes' first professional fight and nerves might be high; the coach might have been too wound up and forgot...
...or did he not tell Nes on purpose? Was he afraid that it would affect Nes' performance? Did he worry that Nes wouldn't be able to bring himself to fight properly otherwise? Or was there some other, darker, reason?Β
"I remember... and I'm sorry, it wasn't your fault."
Lots of people have already commented on this part, and for good reason. What wasn't Nes' fault? The last page suggested that Shadow picked on him simply because he was smaller, but now there's a suggestion that there was more going on in both their pasts. But at least Shadow has apologized for whatever it was.
And Nes certainly wasn't expecting this apology either.Β

Oh yes, and real quick: Shadow certainly looks different here than on the previous pages. He definitely looks softer, a lot less menacing. And, oddly enough, he manages to look both older and younger at the same. ^^
