I had this sketch sitting around for over a month! I finally got around to coloring it today, after procrastinating long enough. X) I was planning to ink it too, but I couldn't retain the facial shapes like I wanted for some reason.

I relate so hard to the "not being able to retain the facial shapes" thing. Going from a sketch to lineart is one of the most arduous things for me. I tend to just lose all the energy. Lineart really is an artform in and of itself. One I've been neglecting, admittedly. It's why I keep my lines pretty sketchy nowadays.
Also, getting some "Solo Jazz" vibes with the background, haha. Anyways, I love the expression!

You're not wrong about the Solo Jazz aesthetic.
And yeah, I think it's something to do with the sketch lines being fuzzy and your mind being able to fill in the gaps wherever it's appealing. Plus, they can add volume. Inking... not as much.
