Description This wasn’t intended any particular Skipper from the books, just my depiction of what I imagine one could be. I also wanted to take a stab (no pun intended) at drawing a more otter-like character design in general, with a face/body more closely resembling one. I hope you guys like him!

You should/could be a cartoonist! Create your own show perhaps. Β  I (as a not-huge fan of anthropomorphic stuffs) would totally watch it

Brilliant job! I always pictured the otters in similar ways as to the TV series since I've watched it first before reading the books, but this could just as easily depict the Skipper of Otters in my eyes (or should I say imagination?).Β

Temiree In reply to VoxMagi [2015-10-03 06:05:19 +0000 UTC]

Why not both?

And it's a shame otters didn't have a bigger part in the Nelvana series. It's been a while since I watched, but it seemed like any other species, even shrews, had a bigger part in the show than otters. I had kinda hoped they'd do Taggerung, but that never happened as we both know. Ah well. X)

Good point! xD

Yeah, I have to agree with you there, and I really liked Skipper. The mice were my favorite overall, but even so, I liked a number of the characters and the otters especially had my interest with their views and how they worked, yet in the series you get to know little about them with only Skipper doing something important every now and then. Taggerung would of made an awesome series, I have to admit, it's a shame they hadn't. I guess it makes since they only did Redwall and Mattimeo considering Redwall was the very first book in the series and Mattimeo is pretty much a direct sequel about Matthias' son, and then Martin the Warrior is Martin himself who's basically the icon and overall hero.

Temiree In reply to VoxMagi [2015-10-05 08:31:12 +0000 UTC]

It makes sense for them to choose the book series that they did, although maybe the company that owns Redwall chose themselves.

From what I heard the people at Nelvana enjoyed working on the series, so they definitely had the inspiration to do more, but I guess money for the series just dried up!

That's a real shame if so! D:
The TV series was how I got into Redwall in the first place, haha.Β

Perfect, man. Perfect.

Its really amazing, seeing a more "ottery" otter from you. I really like your original design for the species, but its nice seeing this kind of design from you. Plus I really like how you drew his clothes, very "Redwallish". And the added details of the water dripping off of him and forming puddles, *brilliant* touch.

Hey, I'm suddenly imagining an underwater shot of two otters holding a fishing net and capturing a whole school of them: catching breakfast for the whole Holt!

The Skippers were always so badass. I'm glad to see your take on the typical strong and confident design these guys bring to mind.

Temiree In reply to Dukurow [2015-10-03 06:01:58 +0000 UTC]

In that case he'd probably use his maw regardless to finish off the fish. X) Or heck, maybe some days he'd catch them with his mouth. He just didn't wanna get his clothes wet today.

I'm glad you liked my take!

That poor fish D: At least his body was used efficiently x3

I like the puddles under his feet Β and the water drops x3 Β And is it cross-hatching shading? or is there a better term for that?

Either way it came out great! Amazing job

I remember doing an art project involving cross hatching ^^ We had to do the other half of a person's face, except I accidently made my subject's face a little too fat on the drawing side o.o
