Description Shaded version of this sketch: [link]

I couldn't think of a better title or a name for this guy. "Wolf Bandit" sounded nice.

I really like how this sketch came out so I figured I'd post it. I wanted to draw a villainous character of some sort. I plan on doing a shaded version of this, but also a fully colored version. He looks pretty badass so I'm looking forward to working on him.

Also, thanks to ~vincentwolf for helping out with this.

Enjoy!

The proportions look really good on this, definitely feels more realistic over some of your previous work. The expression does show a lot of contempt, if you wanted to go more cartoony, you could probably go a tad higher and add a few more wrinkles around the dimples.

I'm not entirely sure what you're shooting for with these sketches, if you're aiming for practicing proportions, I think you've really been nailing those down recently - I would suggest, if you want to break out into another practice area, to look into some really dynamic poses, like ones where the limbs are doing in completely opposite directions [link]. Just looking through your recent works, your characters always appear to be portrayed as having their feet on the ground. You always seem to be going for something different in your works, and I thought perhaps more action/dynamic motion might be a new alternative...

Thanks!

I've been doing more dynamic poses actually, but I haven't liked any of them to feel worth posting. Perhaps that makes it a vicious cycle, since I can't get critiques as much that way, but the ones I've been posting have mainly been posted because I like them enough.

I definitely wanna make some kickass action works. Just waiting to be happy with any of them first. xD Heh. Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and actually post some.

Certainly

Ah. Well, there's always your scraps - posting a bunch at once would be good way to compare them all at once I would think. If you're looking for any serious critiques of your work, let me know

I'm curious to see what you feel is detracting from your more dynamic works

What I feel detracts from them is that they come out stiff and I feel there's no motion to them, at least as much as there should be. That's the main thing.

And aren't you in Canada? How is it not the middle of the night for you right now?

It is the middle of the night. I'm usually up this late.

Yeah, I've noticed a slight 'stiff' tinge to a few of your works, though I haven't ever been really certain how that could be corrected. Perhaps drawing the joints as curves rather than strict angles would help. Also, there seems to be a common idea that drawing the character skeleton faster helps with loosening up the drawing [link] [link]

Hm, that could work yeah. I notice my better sketches seem to follow a few principles mentioned. Thanks for the links!
